fly
A couple pictures of a 3.5 year old named Rib Cage that has me on the fence as to shoot or pass. This buck should go 165 as a 3.5 year old which means he has a shot to make 200 inches one day. When you only own 32.5 acres, with trigger happy neighbors...????? Anyway, such a beautiful buck! wtnhunt
Great deer Frank. No way I could pass on that deer on a place like mine. Are you sure he is only 3.5? Hope if you have that restraint, granted that you see him, that he survives.
Strut10
No way I'm passing that deer. Even though he's figured out how to survive to this point............it only takes one stupid little road trip on his part after a hot doe and the neighbors light him up. I deal with much of the same on our property.
fly
I have pictures of this buck from last year and aged him at 2.5. I had him walk under my stand as a 2.5 year old 130s deer at 20 yards and shot him with my camera. Here is a picture from last year. I really don't know what I'll do and may not until the situation is at hand. On one hand he's likely the 2nd highest scoring deer I would have on my wall and on the other hand, next year he would be the biggest and probably make Boone and maybe hit that 200 mark. Rhino
Great buck, especially for a 3.5 year old! Tough call to make but you know he uses a lot more ground than your property. If I were in your shoes, the only pass he'd get is a pass over or under him from a poorly aimed arrow.
fly
I think you're right Al. I'll be focusing on taking this deer unless I see him after the gun season. In which case... I'll still probably take the shot. LOL
Ravin R10 man
with Al , and others on this one. THWACKK!!! Your lucky he made it this far. Got same prob here. You let bucks that got great potential go, and D/A. landowners pop em at 2 yr olds. "We dont have any big bucks on cam"??? NO SH-- SHERLOCK!!! wtnhunt
Most hunters will never see a deer of that caliber in their lifetime. Whatever you decide, good luck on him Frank.
hoosierhunter
If he’s truly 3.5 you have a superstar on your hands and I’d gamble with a pass. Its extremely rare that anyone gets the opportunity to hunt a deer with 200 potential. My rationale is that you mentioned he wouldn’t be your largest buck, so that cracks the door for the potential pass. Now on the other side, I’m also wondering about his age as I’d put him at 4.5 this year based on those limited pictures, but you certainly know better since he’s in your farm. Either way it goes it’s fun to have animals like that roaming your property!
