hoosierhunter
Slow going here. Been out a few times but nothing worth writing home about. Gun season ended and it was a complete dumpster fire in terms of deer I wanted to live. Hopefully things will get better.
fly
I contracted influenza A a couple weeks ago and have a nagging cough that won't go away. Not a good thing to have while deer hunting. For the most part my season is over. I'll try to get on a doe for my sister, but doubt I'll shoot another buck. Flu has been really bad this year. Hope you get feeling better soon Frank. I have only been hunting once since killing that 8 a week and a half ago. We came down with the crud in our home the day before Thanksgiving, and still not over it. I can kill one more, but that is highly unlikely, unless I see the 11 point that disappeared a month ago. I think he is probably already dead. He went from semi regular daylight appearances by my cams to nothing since Oct 28.
fly
Hope you and your family get free of this vile virus as well William. I'm going out to the stand today - trying some tessalon pearl for the cough. At this point if I run into the 3.5 year old 15 pointer (rib cage) I'd let him go and hope he turns into a 200 incher next year. That only leaves one 9 point I call Victor that is at least 5.5 and likely older. He'd score in the 150s and I hunted him hard last year and never saw him from the stand. He occasionally showed up on camera, but always at night. The main mission at this point is to get my sister some deer meat, so any mature doe will fill the tag. hoosierhunter
I haven’t been hunting much as I’ve be preoccupied with habitat management work, specifically invasive control. With no shooters available it’s the perfect time to basal bark treat autumn olive and cut & spray brush honeysuckle. You don’t really realize how much of this stuff you have until you dive in and treat it. Been using pathfinder II on autumn olive & multiflower rose and 50% gly mix on the cut honeysuckle. Fingers crossed that I got a good kill when green up happens.

hoosierhunter
Nothing new to report on the hunting front. It’s been several weeks since I’ve been in a stand. Pretty well set on letting everyone go until next year.
fly
Same here Pat. My influenza developed into bronchitis and I still have a nagging cough preventing me from hunting. Would still like to fill my archery doe tag, but will have to see how this cough does. Currently on steroids and it's a little better. Took my cameras down, as this arctic weather in the negative digits will just fry the batteries. Probably put them back up in April.
Maine Hntr
Hey guys, I apologize for not checking in for a bit, been busy at work, kids, sick, etc… nothing Greta to report hunting wise, pretty disappointing season for me. I’m hoping to get out one or two last times for out black powder season but this years weather has just been terrible. Warm fall and early winter and I was hoping to get out tomorrow morning but this storm up the east coast with high wi da and heavy rain will probably prevent me from getting out. Congrats to you all, hard work paying off!
fly
Well boys... I went out tonight and guess who walked past me at 20 yards? The unicorn buck I shot back in early October! At this point he has a free pass till next year. I didn't even take my crossbow off the EZ hanger. I figure he's 3.5 or 4.5 and will be bigger next year. I already have one at the taxidermist and really just wanted a doe for my sister. I saw three, but let the two smaller ones walk past waiting on the bigger one, Then the smaller one caught my wind and that was all she wrote. I've still got one week so maybe I'll catch up with that mature doe.
wtnhunt
That is great that he is still around Frank. Amazing the will to survive that deer have. Between getting sick and the holidays, I have only been out a few times since Thanksgiving. Not getting any decent bucks on cameras, makes it tough to get motivated, but i still have a couple weeks left with being in a cwd zone. fly
Hope you get better soon William. I just got over my cough from influenza back in mid-November. I went out this eve and got skunked - didn't see a deer. Thursday will be my last day for the 2022 season. I'm skipping turkey hunting this year, because I'll be chasing Red Stag in the mountains of New Zealand. I'll be sure to post pictures of that hunt. Should be amazing! It has been a life time dream of mine since I first started hunting. Edited January 9, 2023 by fly
hoosierhunter
Awesome news that he’s still kicking! I ventured to Ohio for the first time last weekend to hunt the ML season. The hammer didn’t drop, but it was still a blast getting out. Fingers crossed that some of the bucks make it through to next season!
fly
That's a wrap for the 2022 season! I look forward to sharing the hunt with the RT family in about 9 months!
