horst
Re: switchgrass????? Never planted it myself but if your going to try getting ahold of your DNR there. They probably know where to get it and if your planting enough they may even have a program to help cut the costs of buying the seed and the planting.Thats where Id start looking anyway, theyre usually pretty helpfull with stuff like this. dogdoc
Re: switchgrass????? switchgrass is a great native perennial summer grass and makes great nesting and cover for ground birds like quail and turkey. You might check with you local co-op--the seed is expensive. If you can't find any I know you can order it online at www.seedland.com todd
pointing_dogs_rule
Re: switchgrass????? contact your local Pheasants Forever Chapter. They should have an abundance of this seed. In our county PF will pay for 90% of the seed and planting. We must come up with the remaining 10%. Not bad to put in $1000 and only have to pay $100!!! It is excellent in the winter when heavy snows hit. It just bends over and provides plenty of cover for the birds. Note: I planted mine 7 years ago and now it grows to over 6 feet tall. It is a pain in the butt to walk through and I'm not sure you could shoot a bird it that stuff, even if you wanted to. My plot also holds deer very nicely. Great place to fawn and a great place for the bucks to bed down and hide. I love to get out there in Oct (during bow season) around 4 in the afternoon and just wait. Eventually you hear the grass "snapping" and then you must try to locate the deer in the tall grass. "is it just a doe or a giant shooter" coming my way???? What a rush!!! Good luck to all the dog
