Crossbows - please only bowhunters reply

1. How are crossbows dealt with where you live? Are they treated just like all other bows? do they have their own season? etc.

2. Do you support letting all hunters with an archer license hunt with a crossbow? or just disabled people?

3. If crossbows were allowed for all people with archery license would you take a crossbow rather than a recurve or compound?

I know the majority of all hunters want crossbows legalized (at least in Wisconsin) I'm interested in what just the bowhunters say.

Re: Crossbows - please only bowhunters reply

In VT they are only legally used by disabled hunter during the archery seasons.

I consider them to be as much an archery weapon as a long bow, recurve, or compund.

To me a crossbow is to compounds as compounds are to traditional bows.

It just technology progression to me.

For example:

A)Trad bows being the most difficult to shoot accurately with no sights(*) and hold at full draw.

B)Compounds more simple then trad bows to hold at full draw with let-off and shoots more accurately with sight pins.

C)Crossbows via a scope makes them the easiest to shoot accurately and is mechanically held at full draw. JMO

That being said I think I would like to have one but would not hunt with it solely. I like my compound and recurves too much to just use one style of weapon. cool.gif

*I realize sights can be put on trad bows but the majority do not. wink.gif

Re: Crossbows - please only bowhunters reply

1. legal for anyone during archery season.

2. I wish they were only allowed for the disabled, or older bowhunters who can't draw a regular bow anymore.

3. Nope, i could use one now if i wanted but will stick with my compound. If i get to the age where i can't draw a hunting bow anymore i will not hesitate to pick up a crossbow though.

1. How are crossbows dealt with where you live? Illinois only allows disabled people to use them

2. Do you support letting all hunters with an archer license hunt with a crossbow? I like how the law currently is.

3. If crossbows were allowed for all people with archery license would you take a crossbow rather than a recurve or compound? No

Re: Crossbows - please only bowhunters reply

1st. Disable people can use them anytime, for any deer. Healthy people may use them during late season for anterless deer only.

2nd: I think there should be a season, slightly shorter than regular archery, for the healthy people who choose to hunt with crossbow. But leave it how it is for physically challenged folks.

3rd:if crossbows were allowed, I probably would not use it, but I may.

Legal for everyone during all seasons

yup, dosnt matter what you use, there range is still limited. I think it allows kids who cant draw 40 pounds to hit the woods early

3. If crossbows were allowed for all people with archery license would you take a crossbow rather than a recurve or compound?

Nope..i could if i wanted to, but i enjoy the challenges of the compound too much.

Re: Crossbows - please only bowhunters reply

Crossbows only allowed for certified disabled people during regular archery season. No special season but anyone can use them during the rifle season.

No, I do not believe that all hunters should be able to use them during the archery season, just the disabled/handicapped. My reasoning is that crossbows are at full draw before the game appears, hence, no movement to bring it to full draw and crossbows can use a rest when shooting. There is no comparision to the mechanics required to shoot a compound, recurve or longbow.

If sometime in the future I am no longer able to physically shoot a compound/recurve I will not hesitate to pickup a crossbow and go hunting, but until then I would not use a crossbow, even if legal.

I will answer this even though I am a hunter who uses a bow. Would I be a bowhunter if I wore a bowtie? grin.gif

Legal for all deer season

2. Do you support letting all hunters with an archer license hunt with a crossbow? or just disabled people?

I'm for hunting so I support it for all hunters

3. If crossbows were allowed for all people with archery license would you take a crossbow rather than a recurve or compound?

I own both and use both according to how I feel. But most of the time I have my compound.

Re: Crossbows - please only bowhunters reply

I will vote for everyone to be able to hunt with it during archery season.

I am to the point where I see the doctor tomorrow, and i'm going to ask him how to apply for the permit.

But, it would be alot better if I didn't have to put in for the permit.

Re: Crossbows - please only bowhunters reply

1. Openly sold in public but you have to have God himself come down from heaven and plead your case to get the DEC to authorize the use of them for the disabled.

2. For the DEC to relax their death grip on the regulations so at least all the Disabled can get and use them.

3. No....Compound only here(maybe traditional in the future too).

Re: Crossbows - please only bowhunters reply

well as of this time i am still a bow hunter. byt this time next year will be shooting a crossbow and may have too this year depending on my ability to be able to shoot a compoound or traditional bow for the remainder of this year.

being from oklahoma as was said by dog doc i think the laws here in oklahoma are just fine and no i wouldn't just shoot one if it were legal for anyone to shoot one.do i think it is wrong to shoot one if you can shoot a bow either compound or traditional yes but that is my opinion and nothign more tha that. if the laws change then so be it i will live ith it
