Rhino
Re: Crossbows - please only bowhunters reply 1. Legal during archery season for disabled hunters and hunters 65 or older. They are also legal for all hunters during muzzleloader and rifle seasons. 2. I honestly wouldn't care if they legalized it or not during bow season. 3. I don't plan to ever hunt using a crossbow unless I'm physically unable to hunt with my recurve or compound bows.
py_archer
Re: Crossbows - please only bowhunters reply [ QUOTE ] 1. How are crossbows dealt with where you live? Are they treated just like all other bows? do they have their own season? etc. Legal for everyone during all seasons 2. Do you support letting all hunters with an archer license hunt with a crossbow? or just disabled people? yup, dosnt matter what you use, there range is still limited. I think it allows kids who cant draw 40 pounds to hit the woods early 3. If crossbows were allowed for all people with archery license would you take a crossbow rather than a recurve or compound? Nope..i could if i wanted to, but i enjoy the challenges of the compound too much. [/ QUOTE ] Ditto! I like the crossbow as a management tool. Far better hunters than snipers. If not for the crossbow I would not have been able to take my sons deer hunting before they could pull back a legal poundage bow. Crossbows give some people confidence to enter the woods and that can only be a good thing. I dislike the fact that they are called bows and I think that is where a lot of the controversy stems from. They are neither a bow or a firearm, but a hybrid. Guys around here will tell you they got one with a bow then when you ask them questions that prove you actually know what you're talking about they admit to a crossbow. Scraping the bottom of the barrel we find the ones that shoot them with a crossbow then check them in with their compound. Who would know? Their loss not mine, I just hunt my own hunt. They don't really bother me. I don't see the woods around here fill up with crossbow hunters like during gun season. I do seem to find a bolt or two every year though. BigDog
Re: Crossbows - please only bowhunters reply Crossbows are legal for disable hunters with a permint I do suport our law (my dad uses one) I would rather shoot compound bows, Crossbows are too bulky. MossySNPR
Re: Crossbows - please only bowhunters reply 1. In Ontario, crossbows are treated just like an everyday weapon. In fact, all bowhunters I know, do not even shoot any other type of bow. Compounds are so scarcely used by hunters in my parts I have never even seen one shot in real life! 2. I recommend people hunt with crossbows, its alot of fun. I know some hunters prefer a more primitive way of pulling back their string and letting an arrow fly, but for me and my party its just the thrill of the arrow, not the bullet. 3. I have the choice in Ontario of picking a bow to shoot and I use a crossbow. I will always do so until the day I die.

VaTechHunter
Re: Crossbows - please only bowhunters reply Here in Virginia, crossbows can only be used by people that can not use bows because of physical problems. There has been talk about a special crossbow season by the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries, where anyone can use crossbows during a certain period. I think it would be alright for the use of crossbows, but only during a special season. But if I was able to use a crossbow during regular bow season I would stick with my compound. Guest kracey
Re: Crossbows - please only bowhunters reply 1.) It is becoming legal 2.) I think all people should be allowed to hunt with them. (everyone I talk to always say they are sticking with their compund or recurve, so what could it hurt?) 3.) Sure I think it would be cool to fool around with one. Dont think I'd hunt just with that but I'd give it a try. (But dont think I would spend the money on one for quite a few years.
