Federal Flight Control Pattern In!

Well i bought a box of the new Federal Flight Controls 3 & 1/2 inch, # 5 shot. Took it out today and fired it at 40 yards....poor results. This was out of a Mossberg 835 w/ the factory tube in it. Only 23 pellet holes in the 10 inch circle, and 7-8 in the head area. These didn't touch the performance of the Winchester Supreme High Velocitys same length and shot size. What would you suggest i get to improve the pattern of this Flight Controls, they have a undertaker choke tube for my gun at Wal-Mart for 15 bucks, .695 ID. Think it would help? Thanks

Shoot the #6's, The #5's did not shoot good in my gun either. Put in a #6 and boy is the pattern awesome. Try that first.

I've heard a lot of people complaining about their patterns from #5 shells. Simply going to #6 should increase your pellet count. But other than that, I would suggest asking a local gun store.

The wind was blowing extremly hard today, i think maybe the wind moved my pattern off a bit. I hate using more shells though, ill have to shoot some more when the wind isn't blowing as much.

Could have been the 5 shot, but the Winchester Supremes did great in it so i figured the Federals would do the same. Could have been the wind, ill give them another shot when it calms down a bit.

Try #4's. I also settled on HevyShot as primary with the above mentioned Winchesters in 2nd. I use those exclusively in my 835. The factory choke was chewed up last year by heavyshot so I switched to the TruGlo. I saw a little difference in chokes but I think that is because my last one was beat to death.

I had the following results. I also posted the whole thing earlier for my 835.

Hevyshot #4's -10" circle at 50 yards had 30 hits.

Winchester Supreme High Velocity had 29

Hevy shot had the tightest grouping in the head and neck area, thus it is my pick.

I also tryed them, the lead shot was 3 1/2 #5 2oz, it did not shoot well at all, only had 28 hits in a 10"circle at 43yds.

The second was the Federal Heavyweight 3 1/2 #5 1 7/8oz, This stuff is awsome, I had over 100 hits in a 10" circle at 43yds. I have made the switch from hevi-Shot.

Buth were shot out of a Winchester super x-2, witha Tru-glo choke tube
