Question about mechanical broadhead selection?

Re: Question about mechanical broadhead selection?

If you do choose a broadhead that uses rubberbands to keep the blades closed during flight....make sure you read the instructions on the package.

Some will tell you to add another rubberband to help keep them closed during the faster flight produced by some bow setups.

Re: Question about mechanical broadhead selection?

Rocket brand has a great line up and are very popular here on this forum.

I used the 100g SideWinders for years but went to 125g head that has an all steel ferrel and thicker blades.

Since then the SideWinders started to use the thicker blades too..

Both are great.

I also can recomment the Wasp 100g JakHammers, real tough mech head.

Good Luck!

However, even though I have not shot these, the following perform great too as I have never read or heard a negative thing about them:

Rocky Mountain Snyper

Rocky Mountain Gator

G5 Tekan

Well I'll be the first then to have something negative to say about the RM Gators. I hunted with them for one year and shot a big doe from almost straight above (she was 7 yards from the base of my tree and I was 25 feet up) and I only got 10 inches of penetration. This was with a 100 grain Gator, a 30 inch XX75, pulling 65 lbs. The Gators have sat in the box for 6 or 8 years now because of that experience. I've used Muzzy ever since with great results, but may give the Grim Reapers a try this year just to try something different.

Re: Question about mechanical broadhead selection?

One note on the Teken. When its open to its full position the blades lock open. Some states see this as being a barbed head and illegal.

Most mech heads have blades that swing open or side back and open but can be slid forward or swing back closed and not considered barbed.

Just my 2 cents on the Teken... LOL
