Trimming diaphram calls?

I posted about getting a Primos CD and set of mouth calls in another post. cool.gif

I got 3 calls with it and one is definately too small, the Cuttin Hen. frown.gif

The other 2 get good sound for me but I am wondering if I need to trim them? confused.gif

The tape or skirt around the very outside of each call is getting serious teeth marks on them. Only on each side, towards the very front of the call. Now like I said I can make them sound real good but there seems to be a lot of the tape between my teeth.

I am not sure if I should trim it or if its suppose to be like that?

One other thing. Apparently the spacing in the middle between both sides my teeth is somewhat narrow. The aluminium frame on one of my calls, the Deadly Double, does not fit inbetween the teeth all the way to the roof of my mouth.

Is this correct?

Or is the call to big for my mouth?

I am sure I will have more "fitting" questions later but this is enough for this post.

Thanks.

Re: Trimming diaphram calls?

It is perfectly fine to trim the tape on a mouth call...I trim almost all of mine. Just trim a little at a time, until it feels right. If you can make it work with the tape between your teeth and it doesn't bother you...then let it be.

As far as the frame fitting, you can bend it a little as long as you don't over strech the reed(s)...or put slack in them. I try not to bend my calls too much if at all, but I have. wink.gif

Re: Trimming diaphram calls?

Bending was my next question but you guys hit that too. Cool.

Can you buy calls of different frame sizes? More narrow? Like TPhunter, my pallet is very high and teeth narrow and being a starter set I am assuming its not the cream of the crop as far as call go.

They do sound good though..

Thanks guys!

Re: Trimming diaphram calls?

Thanks for the advice. I do not feel I am having trouble making the call work or even getting correct sounds, its just the frame size being a smidge to wide on one of them...

I will just have to go and look at them more closely now that I know what I need for a size.

Thanks again.
