Had to call 911

And no, I am not bragging about it. This is probably the first time I have come close to using my Responding to Emergencies training or any First Aid training for that matter. My mom, sister, and I went to one of the smaller cities nearby, Olean, NY, because my sister was getting a Parakeet and we were going to Walmart. We took the cell phone we just bought last weekend since the weather was a little iffy. We decided to take the thruway home. Well we are driving along, the roads are covered in snow, some traffic is going fast, some is going slow and we were one of the slow ones. This is not a busy thruway, it runs down to PA and wherever I dunno. Anyway I am watching ahead and see these orange cones where a car had hit a guardrail probably sometimes earlier this winter. Then right across from it I see a guard rail(one of those rails with the big metal wire strands)completely smashed to the ground then it hits me that the snow is freshly messed up by a car and there are fresh tracks! As we drive by, I look over and down this good sized bank is a red car, with people inside it and the back window completely blown out! Mom told me call 911. We couldn't stop because there was no way to turn around, the road conditions were bad and traffic was behind us. So I called 911 and told them and they were going to send someone! I have never had to call 911 before but I hope and pray the people were ok and the police/EMS could find them easily! Talk about an adrenaline rush but we believe God had a little intervention by leading us that way because no one had stopped or called 911 and if you weren't in the outside lane and looking, no one would see the car! A funny thing is earlier this week my mom and sister stopped a van from rolling into parked cars. The doors were locked but they managed to hold onto the mirrors and stop it when the tires hit a hole in the ground then they told a person in a supermarket who announced on the PA system. God works in mysterious ways! It is times like these that really show God's work in our lives. Be safe out there people!

Re: Had to call 911

Glad you were there and hope they were ok. A couple of years ago at our car lot my mom was outside doing something to the passenger side of a car. behind her was about a 7 foot tall incline of cement and a car was parked at the top of it. She got up and was only a few feet away from the car when it slid down the hil and smashed into the parked car of ours she was just working on!!! Couldn't believe it. If she hadn't moved 5 seconds earlier who knows if she would be alive yet today! Scary stuff, and i believe God has something to do with it! (helping\saving them)

Re: Had to call 911

They are lucky you spotted them and did the right thing by calling for help. A few years ago, I was going to the airport in Atlanta with a friend of mine. It was early in the morning on a backroad. (His house was in a rural area about 80 miles south of Atlanta) We saw a lot of dust in the road ahead (like when someone is cutting their lawn), and as we got closer, saw a pink Saturn off in the ditch. We had no time to stop because we had a flight to catch and we were already cutting it close. So we did the same as you and called 911 and reported it. Gave them the closest mile marker and headed on our way. We probably should have stopped, but I don't think there is anything a couple of high school students could do. I still wonder what the outcome of the situation was.
