ladder stands

I have a Gorilla ladder stand. Great stand. comfortable, and sturdy. It definately taked 2 people to put it up. I wouldn't wantto have to haul it a mile into the woods. I don't think they are the perfect stand for every hunter, or hunting situation. I have mine against a tree that is way to big around for any other type of stand. In this situation, for me it is perfect.

Re: ladder stands

I have a few 15' ladder stands. I like them alot. They are a little akward to carry in the woods, and two people should set them up. However, when they are up and ready not much else if anything is easier to climb into and hunt from. I like them alot.

I bought a Gorilla ladder & hate it. Heavy as heck, not comfy at all IMO.

I have to disagree with you on comfort. I can sit in my gorilla ladder stand for a whole day nad not get restless. Heavy...yes, but also very sturdy, and squeak free. I would buy another in a heartbeat.

Re: ladder stands

It's pretty much all me and my dad hunt out. They are prolly the safest, and i hate sitting in those tiny portable stands that you dont want to move in cuz your scared of falling off. Just my opinion, but the only other thing i would hunt out of if it were up to me would be permanent wooden built platform stands, but those are not portable at all.

Re: ladder stands

While I use my climber and loc on stands for the most part, I do have a ladder stand that certainly has it's advantages in certain locations and situations. I like it because no matter what the tree configuration is I can usually manage to set up the ladder stand, it's a rock solid stand once secured to the tree, it's very safe to ascend and descend, and it's very comfortable. The one thing I didn't like about my ladder stand is the weight and bulk which made it difficult to pack into the woods. I solved that problem by installing a set of childrens "training wheels" onto the stand. I drilled out a set of mounting holes in the tolp of the stand and securely bolted the training wheels onto the stand. Now when I take it into the woods I simply wheel it behind me with no effort at all. When I harvest a deer I simply strap the deer onto the top of the stand and use it as a game cart to wheel the deer back to the truck. I'll admit the wheels look a little weird attached to the stand, but they work fantastic.

i got a ladder in an apple tree at my one stand. I have only ever saw like 2 deer there in my life though. ha....it's my last resort spot.

Wouldn't it make more sense to move the stand to a more promising area, then to consider it a "last resort" spot to hunt? confused.gif
