spyderpancake
Re: simmons vs tasco For a lower-end scope, the Simmons ATV is a great ,low-budget scope. They are getting hard to find, but you can get them for $79 at Natchez. In my opinion one of the best scopes for under $100.
johnf
Re: simmons vs tasco For another $30 you can get a Nikon Pro-staf on e-bay. Spend the extra cash the deer deserve it.
AJ
Re: simmons vs tasco The old Tasco World Class scopes were very functional. I have more than a few of them and they work well. The newer World Class scopes ar not the same. I have heard some unfavorable reports about them. Simmons is bringing out a new line of of scopes this year. As long as you stick with the uper end, ie. 44 Mag, Aetec, Whitetail Expedition, you will have a decent scope. I have quite a few of these and while the optics are not the brightest, they do work well. The farther down the line though and the weaker the scope gets. I still own a Simmons and it funtions well. I have several Tasco's that also all serve their purpose.
JimT
Re: simmons vs tasco I was asked to give details of why I said neither. I am cool with that. I have owned two Tasco scopes. One was a Pronghorn 4x. The reticle blew apart on it. I also owned a Tasco World Class 3x9. The rear lense fell out. I bought two Tascos. They both failed me in the field. I have never owned a Simmons, but three of my buddys have. One was a package Winchester gun from WalMart. If you looked at this scope cross eyed it would fog up.The other two have near zero low light visibiltiy compared to my Leupolds. They both also have bad paralex. Your eyes needed to be about 1" from them also to get a clear field of view. Thats just asking for a black eye...lol. I am not sure what models the Simmons were though. Some guys have had good luck with Tasco scopes. I never have, and therefore I cannot reccomend them. From what I have seen with my buddys lower priced Simmons, they will not get my vote either. Actually, another buddy of mine has a lower priced Simmons on his 30-06. It has been pretty good for him I guess. He has not said anything bad about it to me anyways. However, that still a 3 to 1 vote against. Hope I was thourough... Jim
iron buck
Re: simmons vs tasco I would not buy either brand. And would not use them if they were given to me. I have had bad experiences with both in the past.........and will never make those mistakes again. With optics........you do get what you pay for. The bargain brands just do not deliver for me. I'd rather use iron sights. JMHO.
snapper
Re: simmons vs tasco Some folks don't have alot of money to spend on certain things...sucks, but thats the truth. So if someone only had lets say $50 to spend on a scope...they'd have to be looking at these lower end scopes (Tasco, Simmons, etc...). If a gun shop was giving away new scopes...either a Tasco world class or a Leupold VariX II and you could only have one...I doubt there would be a line for the Tasco.
