Stinger-Hunter
I started stalking around 7:30am since the wind was over 20 mph. I worked my way downwind (no choice) and startled about 6-8 does. I hit my CAN call and they came back in a heartbeat. A doe was about 20 yards offering a neck shot, I hit her hard, but she trotted off. I waited about 20 minutes based on the blood that was evident (lots of blood). I tracked her for about 300 yards when I heard her going through some thick stuff. I laid off for about an hour or two. I looked for a total of 5 hours but couldn't find anymore blood half way through the thick stuff. A buddy of mine helped me look and he found some more blood that went about 50 more yards. That was it. The blood trailed off to a drip about every 5 or 10 yards and we lost her. There was so much blood, I thought I had her for sure, but I might have hit her a little low and the wound sealed up. I never found my arrow, but I'm irritated to no end, cause everything worked perfectly except I didn't count on her tenaciousness. I'll be going out again Wed Morning during the quarter moon. I am glad that the CAN worked like a charm, though.
ZooBear
Re: Shot a doe, didn\'t find her. The CAN Works!! I myself would pass up the neck shot. You will lose a lot of deer on that one.
rossman
Re: Shot a doe, didn\'t find her. The CAN Works!! Yeah the can worked but your choice to shoot did not. What in gods name are you taking a neck shot with a bow for? No wonder you lost the deer. Now the deer is either dead and wasting away or suffering and close to dying. Eitherway, by taking a "neck shot" you may have killed an animal for no reason. I don't get it, your frustrated that you lost a deer because "you" elected to take such an awful shot. What else would you expect. If your going to take such risky bow shots, don't tell anyone, it makes you look like the non - ethical hunter most of us strive not to be. We owe it to the deer to take good humane shots with quick kills. Stuff happens, and sometimes with good shots we do not find deer, but at least try. Yeah, everything worked perfectly alright, until you decided to take such a terrible shot. Way to go! If you get upset with my response, good, I got my point across!!!!!!! Think before you shoot!!!!!!

dogdoc
Re: Shot a doe, didn\'t find her. The CAN Works!! I agree with the other--the neck shot with a bow is a VERY POOR shot---a different story with a gun but not a shot to be taken with a bow. todd
007hunter
Re: Shot a doe, didn\'t find her. The CAN Works!! The shot in the neck was not a smart move. I gotta agree with rossman on this one. Just makes you look bad.
c_lou
Re: Shot a doe, didn\'t find her. The CAN Works!! I agree with everybody else. Neck shots with a bow are a big no-no. Now with a gun is a different story. Poor shot selection on your part. Please learn from your mistake.

Stinger-Hunter
Re: Shot a doe, didn\'t find her. The CAN Works!! After reading these posts I'll have to bow head in shame on this one. I respect what you guys are saying and won't be trying that shot again. I did think at the time that it was a good choice, but now have to admit that it wasn't. I appreciate the feedback and ask for you forgiveness as I did for the last 3 hours of my search. Again, I take your advice very seriously and thank you all for being honest.
