PAhardwoods
It’s seems like it has been an eternity since deer season ended. Withdraws set in long ago. I’ve spent hours watching hunting videos, looking at old pictures, and telling hunting stories to anybody who will listen. To say I’ve been looking forward to opening day of spring gobbler season would be an understatement. It’s been my driving force to get through these short cold days of winter. Turkey season is why I haven’t called in sick in the last few months so I can play hooky on a warm spring day. I long for the morning when my alarm clock will go off at 4:00 in the morning. Any normal person wouldn’t dream of putting on camo and heading out to the woods well before the sun is up. But for me it’s all I’ve been dreaming of. Don’t be fooled that old tom has been dreaming of this time of the year as well. He will spend his days strutting and gobbling hoping a sweet hen or two well come to him and I’ll spend mine chasing after him. When you look at it that way he seems to be the lucky one as he gets to chase the girls all day. However anybody who has entered the spring turkey woods to try and out smart a boss gobbler knows they are truly the lucky one’s being able to be out with God’s creatures as they wake up and look around for there morning breakfast. Then it will happen the woods will explode with the sound of the first gobble of the season the hair on my arms will stand up as the sweet sound hits my ears. Finally after hours of day dreaming, scouting, and endless hours of practicing with that new call that I just had to have. I’ll get to match wits with that sneaky tom come the opener. I’ll throw all my tricks at him then when he gets really sneaky I’ll throw him something freaky (primos plug) to try and get him into range but remember he’s been dreaming of this day to. Not just chasing hens but the chance of making me shake my head and ask why he did that. This is the reason I enter the woods each spring its not to just to kill something, rather it’s to be apart of a great chess match and being able to be in God’s country…. ~cody~ Hope you guys enjoyed this...I know some of yall are hitting the woods already but i still have another month hope everybody has a great season and more importanly a safe season Cody
