Would you ever sell....

Re: Would you ever sell....

On one hand you have the mount...on the other hand some of you like myself have family.

I'm sure I am like others and the FAMILY comes first before any material possesions(including mounts)....selling it would definitely be an option with a replica still hanging on my wall.

My legacy I leave to my family is a stronger desire than anything else....I would be willing to give up anything...at anytime.

SOLD!! My buddy was offered $65,000 US for his 261" non typ whitetail and didn't take it. I say sell it, but make a deal that you get a replica. If someone wants it that bad, its yours as far as I'm concerned. I just want to be able to see a deer that big when I'm hunting.

Re: Would you ever sell....

I think yall are crazy. If i shot a World record whitetial, and if it could get me a million bucks it would be gone. I'd settle for 500,000. Havet them make me a replica and then Everyone gets to see my deer that i shot, not just the ones whom come to my house. Also. Record animals are worth Alot on the black market. With Freedom of information its easy for some guy to break into a home and sell it on the black market.

Re: Would you ever sell....

to me that is a personal choice and onlyyou can make that choice if it is you that it is offered too. you don't know but maybe the person is in need of money and knows he can make things better for himself or his family.

i would thin about it if i was able to take an animal and if everything was right i might sell mine as well.

also they offer some great money to people who have shot record book bucks and it may be where your fiends and family and others may look at your buck. nothing wrong with it in my books

Wasn't there a 16 year old kid in Iowa who shot a monster then some one stole the mount right out of his house?

Big article in Outdoor Life about that just recently. Pretty sad state of affairs when something you shot and mounted gets stolen..and then what...how do you pawn a rack that already has pics all over the place since it is a record...

Re: Would you ever sell....

If some fool wants to pay me for my record deer antlers, I will gift wrap them. I would not need a $million to let go of a world record. I can always get a replica mount and take the $ and use it for guns and hunts in the future. That will mean more to me than a dust collector on the wall. I can always look at the pics and remember. Can you tell I am not into taxidermy?

Re: Would you ever sell....

In a heart beat I would, assuming the money is right. I don't care if my family would need the money or not. Money is money. I can always use $100,000!

I'd get me an exact replica and endorsement rights out of the deal.

I look at it this way. If I shoot an amazing record animal, very few people will ever see it in my basement. But if it goes on the road, everyone gets to see it. That statement is not seeking fame for me, but is simply meant to share an amazing animal with everyone else.

Re: Would you ever sell....

I would have to agree with Dogdoc. I love my mounts and I'm always trying to get the next one, but I would have to weigh the options and see which is more profitable. Is keeping the original and selling replicas and doing your own marketing worth it compared to the $$ some replicas and the $$ you will make for royalties. If it was a big diff. I may give up my trophy....but if it was close then I would keep it and buy a security system and a couple Rottweillers!! grin.gifgrin.gif

Re: Would you ever sell....

Most of the time I would say no: However, if there wasn't a true "story" to go with the mount (i.e. hanson buck) I would be willing to sell: Right now I have 2 crappies on my wall a 14.5 and a 15.5 incher..I have caught bigger since, HOWEVER I was fishing a lake through the ice...way to late in the season...They were the only 2 fish I caught that night, I fell through the ice and dang near froze....my buddy with me, had the same fate...we were cold...2 years later (at 27) he died of cancer.....the story behind those fish is worth more to me, and the memory of my buddy then anyone could pay me. Any other mount.....go ahead and make me an offer! :-)

Good story there birddog, Ive got a set of antlers I wouldnt part with for personal reasons as well, sometimes there is a lot more to a story then just the mount.
