Illegal “Anchor” Babies:

We have a lot of problems with illegal immigration, but this one could be solved.

We need to repeal or revise a law on the books that now makes any baby born in the U.S., automatic Citizens of the U.S.

This could be easily changed by changing a little wording.

“Any baby born in the U.S. to a Citizen of the U.S, or a legal immigrant to the U.S. would automatically be a Citizen of the U.S.”

These babies born to illegal immigrants are called “anchor babies”.

Women coming to the United States illegally are protected by law, to get emergency medical care in any U.S. hospital, whether they can pay or not. If a hospital refuses treatment, they are heavily fined or have their licenses revoked.

Four hospitals in CA were forced to close in 2004 because too many of their patients were non-paying patients.

A legal Citizen of the U.S. cannot be deported, nor can the U.S. deport the mother of an infant that is a Citizen.

Not all illegal aliens are slipping across our southern boarder.

Women are coming to the U.S. under any number of different legal methods, such as student or visitors visas. They are purposely getting pregnant, and having their babies here in the good ol’ U.S. of A..

Once they have delivered their “anchor baby”, they cannot be forced to leave.

After the “anchor baby” is born, the mother is able to get permanent legal status, (green card). Not only can she and the baby now stay in this country legally, but they now have the right to sponsor their other family members to legally immigrate.

If the babies delivered here in the United States, born to a woman without permanent legal status, were not considered United States Citizens, they could both be deported.

This is only one of my personal opinions, and is not copy, pasted from any web-site. …..popgun

Re: Illegal “Anchor” Babies:

True Story, dad found out he had liver cancer a couple months back.Because of the cancer, and the chemo treatment, he is unable to work, hes in a lotta pain, retaining fluid, and sick a lot.The doctors told him he couldnt work, and the social workers at the hospital told him to sign up for social security.Hes filled out a mountain of paperwork, been denied, refiled, etc.....and finally hes sitting in the social security office waiting to talk to someone. The process has taken over a month and a half , during which time hes been in and outta the hospital weekly and since hes not working, and has no income, hes got no insurance. While hes sitting there this mexican lady comes in and goes up to the desk. She's in the contry illegaly, and pregnant it turns out.Do they deport her?No, they tell her not to worry about anything, go home, it will all be paid for shocked.gifDad got pissed off and walked out.apparently being pregnant in this country dont just alow em to stay here, it also automatically qualifies em for benifits people cant get that have worked here and paid taxes on for 30 or 40 years. The gal just walked back out without even having to sign a paper.Oh, dad finally qualified, his benifits will start in Sept frown.gifLong time to go without a paycheck or insurance isnt it crazy.gif

Should both be deported unless the mother becomes a legal citizen. 4 hospitals closing in 2004 due to nopays and people wonder why health care expenses and insurance premiums are continuing to climb as they are.

Re: Illegal “Anchor” Babies:

In my mind there are two separate issues here that are tied together. One is illegal immigration and the other is health care. In regards to illegal immigration it is difficult to close the loopholes in the laws without completely closing up the borders. There has to be an acceptable level of compromise but I don't think that our government has found it yet! To completely close borders is contrary to how our country was founded but there is nothing wrong with strictly controlled access in my opinion.

In regards to health care, until costs come down I think everyone should at the very least carry their own major medical policy. You can get a fairly large deductible, but it's better to try and pay that down over years than to be saddled with thousands upon thousands of dollars in costs from emergency or catasrophic situations.
