Strut_Buster
They will be arround for a long time because almost every manufature makes guns in the WSM. the SAUM is prolly gonna die out. Recoil is less because they burn less powder. Accuracy is up to the shooter. I can get 1.5 inch groups with a trigger pull of 8 lbs on mine. (gotta get that fixed stat) I have a 300 WSM in a model 70 Super Shadow and recently won a 300 mag. The 300 mag will go because i'm confident in my 300 WSM out to 300 yards. It leaves blood trails on deer 3 feet wide. Also, it has replaced my 243 as my go to gun. Its light, easy to carry and very fast on the cycle compared to my 280. I'ma fan i can say. I plan to Pick up a BAR in 270 WSM as a light carry weapon and brush gun/drive gun. That would replace my SKS in 7.62x39 which is a great preformer in any conditions. I would recomend a WSM because more guns are available to choose from but i would recomend a Browning or a Winchester. Recoil is stout but not bad. I feel our 30/06 is alot worse for some reason. But thats on a Remington Pump 7600 without a recoil pad. Guns and Ammo article
JimT
Re: Short action magnums? Some will be around for a while I think. Others will fade away. I have never shot a WSM, but alot of people like them. I will be sticking to the tried and true probably forever.
Shaun_300
Re: Short action magnums? I have a Browning BLR in .300 WSM, and my brother shoots the BLR chambered in .270 Win, and dad has a BLR in .308 Win, to me, i dont notice any recoil differences between the three of them. i was really surprised at the amount of recoil the WSM had, a lot less than i expected. I use to use the Remington 700 .300 Win Mag, that thing packs a good punch! a lot more than the small BLR in .300 WSM. i dont have a scope on it yet, so i dont know how accurate it is. my the look of the other guys' results, it seems to be an accurate cartridge. i think they will stick around, especially the .300, not too sure about the SAUM's. 7th
Re: Short action magnums? I think the WSM's are here to stay and the RUSM's are fading fast. I see ware Rem is making there Custom guns in the 300 WSM now. That tells me what I have been seeing in the gunshops too. I have the Win. M-70 Super Shadow in the .300 WSM and it shoots great. 5 rounds under or at 5/8" at 100 yds and under or at 1 1/2" at 250 yds. I am still playing with the loads and know that I will get this better. My 16 year old is hoping for one in a the Sav. M-16 Left Handed and I am hoping to add a Tekka-3 in the same load for myself too. If you are looking for a round that will just slam everything down in frount of it well, we all are still looking for that, but if you are looking for a new gun to try then go for it. No it will not do anything that we don't have out there now but it will do it with less powder and well, it is another resone to get a new gun an't it!!! AJ
Re: Short action magnums? [ QUOTE ] I can shoot consistently 1/4" groups at 200 yards using Winchester Supreme 150 gr ballistic silvertip ammo. [/ QUOTE ] You had better enter that thing in benchrest competitions then. You can make some money.
