Guest bigbuckmiddaugh
Re: MICHIGAN BOWHUNTERS... i'm from big rapids, michigan. Opening week was good. Seen a few very small bucks. It's been better for me this year, than it has last 3 yrs. I got a new piece of private land to hunt and thats where i have been seeing the deer. Come to find out, no one around the surrounding parcels bowhunt I'm sure that has something to do with seeing deer all the time. I took a 3 pt opening morning, seen a 4 pt'r. went out couple mornings later shot a doe, she went 30 yds. I rattle in a nice 6 pt'r twice now on a piece of state land, lol. No big ones yet, i haven't even seen any big rubs or nothing yet. Hoping though!!
MichiganHuntr1
Re: MICHIGAN BOWHUNTERS... Yep, the season has been okay. Ive been caught twice. Ive seen quite a few deer this year. More in Harrison, than ottawa lake. The past couple of days ive been having a hard time in the woods.. TOO WINDY. The wind just swirls where im at. So any wind is bad. Last night i was in my stand, and a deer (dont know if it was a buck or a doe) was coming to me. The wind started blowing, and the deer stopped, and started snorting at me for five minutes. Boy was I mad. Havent gotten a deer yet, but i will.
Nick
Re: MICHIGAN BOWHUNTERS... I took a 1 1/2 y/o doe in Harrison on October 2nd in the evening. Then came home and took a 1 1/2 y/o 6 point on a farm I hunt in Corunna. Ive been hunting alot but havnt seen any deer since then. This last weekend was NASTY hunting weather. Guest rbfree1
Re: MICHIGAN BOWHUNTERS... How many deer can you guys take now in Michigan, I grew up in Saginaw and have not been home since 87. I sure miss it. We have some great hunting here in Oregon but No whitetails to speak of. I sure miss the rut around the 1st of november. I use to drag a rag soaked in doe in heat for about a 1/2 mile and then soak it again and hang it in a tree and just watch the bucks come it like they were on a string. I dream about it all the time. Wish I was home
AdvantageTimberLou
Re: MICHIGAN BOWHUNTERS... If the dang wind would settle down I would get to go more!!!! LOL. I have seen a lot of does but no horns yet. Wife seen a 4 point, I have some rubs by my set-up and some new ones as of this weekend. Rut should be starting up and I hope to get out some more. Just wish the wind would settle down some. Good luck to all Michigan bowhunters. Lou
Nick
Re: MICHIGAN BOWHUNTERS... We can take 2 bucks. The first one can be anything with at least 3" of antlers. The 2nd one has to have 4 points or more on one side. Then you can apply for a lottery drawing for doe tags on public land. Or if you hunt private land you can buy one private land antlerless tag a day until they are sold out for that DMU.
Guest bigbuckmiddaugh
Re: MICHIGAN BOWHUNTERS... I got a HOT one!! I went to a piece of state land last night! All of sudden a doe busted out over a hill right underneath me. About minute later, here comes this buck trailing her, spike horn, lol. He was just a grunting, weaving back and fourth, smelling the ground trying to find her route. Where she stopped, he stopping just a sniffing the ground! Wooot!!!! I'm going to hunt that next couple days, hoping she picks up a BIG one! Wooootttt!!
Guest finnlander
Re: MICHIGAN BOWHUNTERS... North Eastern part of Kalamazoo county. The rut is starting to kick in for sure. I had a 7 point scent checking every doe available. I counted 4 rubs and 5 scrapes within shooting distance of my stand. This year has been the best for me ever. I have watched 6 different bucks. One bruiser that I screwed up on. The rest are 2 1/2 year old basket racks and smaller. No complaints here. I have seen plenty of does. I would like to wait a little longer on taking a doe because I like to hang them for a few days before processing. As you guys now the weather has been all over the board. I have a 140+ class buck I saw on opener that has me spoiled and I'm waiting for him to make another mistake. I hope It dosn't bite me in the rear. Best hunting is just ahead for all of us. Saw lots of deer in the rain and wind last weekend but no good shots. Last not sucked. I saw 1 spike and that was it. The wind was swirling and he was real spooky. He just walked off. GOOD LUCK TO YOU ALL. P.S. I heard the western part of the UP got 5 inches of snow last week.
