Nick
Im just starting to refletch my arrows. What is the easiest way to strip the old fletching off your arrow shaft and clean all the glue off? Is there a solution or solvent you can buy? Ive just been using a razor blade and that isnt getting it all off....

lil hunter
Re: Stripping Fletchings.... I use a pocketknife, with one of the half circle things cut into the blade(it fits perfectly around the arrows) then use denatured alcohol to clean the rest of the glue. Seems to work well for me. Tominator
Re: Stripping Fletchings.... Aluminum or carbon? I've never stripped carbon yet, but for aluminum, I used and old butcher knife, one that had some heft to it. I just ran it up and down the shaft and the weight of the knife was enough to scrape the old glue off. I don't know if that would work on carbon or not, I suspect it would, but it might also splinter it.
VTbowman
Re: Stripping Fletchings.... Nick- The way I removed the factory vanes from my GoldTip 5575s and Beman ICS 400s was with a semi dull sheet rock knife. It not so important how sharp or dull it is but at what angle you hold the knife. I 1st cut away the fin of the vane and scraped the glued section a few times at a 30* angle pulling towards me. Not fast swipes either; slow drag cutting. Then to scrape the glue I would hold the same knife at about 80* to 90* from the shaft. (You kinda get a feel for what angle does the best as you do it.) I would take a green scrubby pad to "sand" the remaining glue off. Then my final glue removal would be with a solvent of some sort. I used fingernail polish remover to get the stubburn glue. 9Its all I had at home-LOL) I would go over it with rubbing alcohol to clean any residual solvent, finger oils, etc. before glueing. It may seem like a long process but it got about 2 dozen arrow cleaned and preped for fletching in one afternoon.
