I am interested in trying mechanical's. But i need some feedbakcon them. My major concern is I fear that they might not open up when they are shot. Anyone with any info on Mechanicals would help me out a lot. Thanks.

Re: Mechanical\'s

I personally don't think mechanicals have enough penetration due to bad experiences. So I would not recomend mechanicals, I would just get a fixed blade or cut-on-contact broadhead.

Re: Mechanical\'s

My bow is set b/w 55 and 58 pounds. My arrows are 26.5 inches at (7.5 GPI) and I will shot 125 grain broadheads. How do I figure out my KE with all of that?

They have plenty!!!!!!!!!

You do need to shoot 55 lbs of KE though

I am sure if a mechanical hits the sweet spot behind the shoulder it passes through easily, BUT if you pull and hit the shoulder, a mechanical doesn't get as much penetration as a cut-on-contact would.

Also I did my own rough experiment with mechanicals and fixed blades. When I shot a mechanical broadhead into a Tough Bag target, it penetrated about 4 inches. When I shot the bag with the fixed blade it went about twice as deep.

Using mechanicals vs. fixed blade/cut-on-contact is a personal preferance, but I will stick with the fixed and cut-on-contacts. They just give me a little more faith when the shot comes that it will actually do what it is supposed to do, even if that means sacraficng a little accuracy by not using mechanicals.

Go to www.broadheadtests.com and read the info on Mech vs. fixed. That should help you get started and figure out what head is best for you.

As a general rule most fixed blade heads will

penetrate better than most mechanical styles

That quote above from the broadheadtest.com only furthers supports my conclusions. Although it did only say MOST mechanicals don't penetrate well, I am still not going to search out for anymore mechanicals being the first kind failed. Sorry but that is just me.
