WHISKEYSWAMP
Re: Decoys? I just ordered the Carry-Lite deer decoy just to see how they work. Can't hurt to try.
Stinger-Hunter
Re: Decoys? I'd put them both out and spread Tinks 69 all over the rear end and then hang the drag rag where it can get some good wind through it. Then wait about 25 or 30 yards downwind. This way when he comes in he'll come past you first and will be looking at the does. Any disagreements on this guys?
Guest MarylandQDMA
Re: Decoys? Stinger1, no, none what so ever. I may add, that he will most likey come in down wind from them. try ratteling as well, he will come in looking for a fight, see the does, and figure he can take avantage wile the others (you) are fighting. could you add antlers to one of them. this would realy mess with him, thinking a nother buck in chaseing a doe. I have uesd the doe in past years with mixed results. you realy need to have it set just right for it to work. I am planing on using a buck and doe set up this year. in fact tomorrow. good luck with it. oh I all most forgot, stop in the local fly tieing shop, get some white and brown mallabou feathers, attach the white to the ears and brown to the tail and back of the ears. this will give the imperssion of movement makes for a better decoy. [/ QUOTE ] I havent decoyed much but I think they started recomending you put the doe in heat on the ground and not directly on the decoy. Not sure why but its probably hard on decoys after you dump pee on em over a period of time and instead of a hot doe they just stink Other than that it sounds about right. wtnhunt
Re: Decoys? Have not ever tried using decoys. Have read some really interesting articles about using them though. Buckee uses decoys for his blacktail hunting and seems to have pretty good results from them.
Sam16
Re: Decoys? Yes, put the scent on the ground under the deer. If a buck comes up to smell the butt it will most likely get wind of some kind of human scent where u may have touched it or something. Also, watch the wind. And if you really wanna get tricky, try taping kleenex or something on the tail to add a lil movement in the wind. Give it a try and see what happens. wheelin99xj
Re: Decoys? I have used a decoy for two years now and have had bucks and does come running to it, usually they get about 10 yds and really get curious and try circling around it. I just use mine in bowseason, rifle season around here is a little scary.
Missed160
Re: Decoys? I love em.. I have tried both buck & doe & I think that when the bucks are rutting they reaaly work. I hunt private land, so I know there is no one else around, otherwise I may be a little nervous about using the buck decoy.
Bow Hunter Derek
Re: Decoys? I've got a Renzo buck decoy. In the past, I never had any good luck using it. UNTILL LAST NIGHT! I was flooded with does. Had probably 15 (I could not keep up with counting them, as they would not hold still) circling my buck decoy. Ended up shooting a nice doe at 15 yards. After I shot her, most of the does ended up coming back into the decoy. Like anything, decoys won't work all the time, but sometimes they do. Heck sometimes they almost work too well! [/ QUOTE ] Do you know where the Does bed? If you do I would suggest setting up on a travel route downwind of them. You may just catch him checking the Does or chasing one out right past you. If you have'nt already gotten him with the decoys.
Muff
Re: Decoys? yes I use one...shot my biggest buck yet going right for the decoy. (220 lbs 10 point 150) I hunt in a large field so I try to get the decoy out in where it can be seen in all directions.(100 yars out from my stand) try it you will like it....good luck! Either a big buck or a little buck with an attiude.
