MadHuntinPastor
I have a friend who has permission to hunt on his in-laws 1000 acre farm down in southern VA. They have a low wire fence around their border to deter poachers and dogs. Hunting deer with dogs in this county is legal. They have a huge problem with locals cutting their fence and letting their dogs in to run the deer. Once gun season comes in you almost always hear dogs running the deer and heading for the river where I assume the guys are waiting on the other side. It isn't the dogs fault, but it sure makes you mad hunting and watching them run through your woods. What do you all recommend they do to try and control this? too_pointer
Re: What would you do??? I agree that it isn't any dogs fault. Make the owners pay, call your dnr, they are paid to take care of this stuff !! too_pointer

wtnhunt
Re: What would you do??? Call the warden and the sherrifs dept. Destruction of property here can go both ways.
Rhino
Re: What would you do??? Don't blame the dogs but if they have collars try to catch them to get the owners name, etc. If not try to find out who it is by getting their license plate or catch them in the act. They are liable for damages to private property. This very same problem happened to someone I know in Alabama who also had a low fence around his property. They chose the wrong guy to mess with because he and most of his co-owners are attorneys. They caught the guy cutting their fence and in addition to the normal arresting for tresspassing they suied him for the damages and for punative damages. They never had a problem again after that. Guest BuckMaster058
Re: What would you do??? I'm with the rest of yas let the authorities handle them. It is pretty bad you have something good and you got a few bad apples that want to call themselves hunters screwing things up and causing problems. But I guess you have that. hutchies
Re: What would you do??? Sorry for me it is my land my rules. Take a shotgun with you or a .17 HMR and when you hear the dogs coming pepper their *** or put a bullet in them. Let the owner of the dog cross over on your land and bust him. Or it there is a woodline near see where they are coming thru and set a video camera up on the wood line. That is what the DNR did here to catch a bunch of dove hunters on a baited field. They set up the cams in the middle of the night and hid in the bushes til the shooting started and busted like 25 guys for hunting a baited field. The farmer had dropped 25 tons of rotten milo in the middle of the field.

If they were feral and running deer randomly that would be something different but they were purposely turned loose on his property. If they catch you shooting their dogs YOU will be the one in handcuffs and not them!!! Ranger
