WIwhitetailhunter
Re: How good is a turkeys nose? [ QUOTE ] Eyes and ears are very sharp. If they could smell, they would be impossible to harvest. [/ QUOTE ] I've heard that too. If a turkey could smell as good as it can see, you'd never see a turkey except from a distance. Rhino
Re: How good is a turkeys nose? All you want but if I'm hunting with you I'd appreciate it if you took a shower. Good thing scent is not a problem hunting turkeys or we wouldn't kill many birds.

MossySNPR
Re: How good is a turkeys nose? Turkey's are 10 pounds of eyes and 10 pounds of ears. They couldn't smell an ammonia factory if they stumbled over it!
dodge4x4
Re: How good is a turkeys nose? the eyes are very sharp, but i've had a bunch of Off Bug Spray on before, and had 2 hens 5 foot away not even notice...or at least not be scared or alarmed. i think if they were just about on top of you they mite be able to smell it, but i dunno. dodge4x4
Re: How good is a turkeys nose? actually, i just got to thinkin. last weekend, my uncle and me had forgotten toilet paper, so he used his socks. he then put his dirty socks inside the decoy so he wouldn't have to carry them. well we had a hen come rite up and nose the decoy, so it either doesnt bother em, or they cant smell it. VtBowhunter
Re: How good is a turkeys nose? I agree that a bird's nose is the least of your worries, however it's still a good idea to practice some scent control.......what happens if you're working a gobbler and he hangs up within sight but out of shooting range, and a deer wanders in, smells you, and bolts........do you think that bird will hang around? My 2 pennies anyways.

bigfoot22
Re: How good is a turkeys nose? I think it's eyes is what you have to worry about. They do have great eye sight.I don't think his nose is all that great.I went hunting and tried to call one in.Had him talking but he would'nt come in range. After about 20 mins. of nothing, stood up and one was 10 yards behind me.startled me but he never made a sound.Did'nt get a shot off but I'll bag his a** on sat.
