rossman
Realtree's cover page has the article. http://www.realtree.com/community/news-detail.tpl?ID=735 This could be bad if they do not quarantine it fast. Maybe NY's DEC should bring in the muzzleloaders to kill them, that will give them an equal opportunity to kill deer, which the DEC has pushed for this winter!!!! western NY bowhunter
Re: Well, it is here, CWD in NYS!!!! I was shocked when I just heard this on the radio tonight. I figured it would be here before too long. It didn't say that it was a captive deer on the radio...but I figured it probably was . I hope this doesn't send the state's deer management into more of a chaotic state than it already is.
Doc
Re: Well, it is here, CWD in NYS!!!! I just hope it does not get into our wild deer population. Aside from the obvious problems it could cause the health of the deer herd, I also think it would result in another round of severe population reduction efforts by the DEC. Who knows, they may decide to do this anyway as a precautionary measure. Doc

I live in that county they mentioned and I can attest to the fact that the deer herd is already depleted to the point where there are notably less deer in view anywhere you go. Add on the fact that the DEC may decide to eradicate a larger protion of whats left and that can spell disaster for the future hunting prospects here in this county. I believe that ADKhunter has the detailed numbers from the harvest last year by county in New York State and they clearly show the drop in the total harvest from the year before. Here they are from where I hunt: 6K 2,155 4,824..............1,535 2,983 2.0 1.4 ......./\......./\.................../\..../\ .....03buck..03total......04buck..04 total

Turkeygirl
Re: Well, it is here, CWD in NYS!!!! Wow, how sad. I do not think people should be allowed to have captive deer farms because of this. Also a 6 year old doe is pretty old. What is goingto happen to the deer now? I just hope they don't go shooting everything to prevent it because nothing will help.
longislandhunter
Re: Well, it is here, CWD in NYS!!!! Very disturbing to say the least. One can only hope the DEC takes all the necessary steps to insure total damage control.
rossman
Re: Well, it is here, CWD in NYS!!!! I read in the Utica, "observer dispatch". The first deer which tested positive for CWD, was served at the verona fire department annual sportsmens feast, on Sunday march 13th. Looks like our liberal friends in the Utica press are creating a stir. Front page, first article, and more important than the pope dying. I know there in no evidence of humans naturally contracting the disease, but why do they test the deer if the results will be back after the deer is served? Also, the second deer that tested positive was from a second herd!!!!! Two herds have a positive test now. It seems like it is only a matter of time!!! SaskMan
Re: Well, it is here, CWD in NYS!!!! Pray they don't find any in the wild population. If they do, pray they don't follow Saskatchewan's lead on how to deal with it.
