deerhunter10
I shoot a 7mm-08 and it doesn't kick that hard but it has no padding. It is just hard plastic. I was wondering if any of you guys had any suggestions or links to where I could find a good recoil pad?

DannoBoone1
Re: Recoil Pads I've heard both the Pachmeyor and the Simms are very good. Personally, I can attest to the Simms limbsaver as being excellent. If it can tame down the Encore 209x50 with a heavy load, it should have no trouble with the 7mm-08! snapper
Re: Recoil Pads I have to disagree with the sims recoil pad. I saw a commercial the other day where they said their pad reduces felt recoil by 50%? I bought one and put it on my Rem. 870 and shooting 3 1/2" shells...I can honestly say I didn't feel "ANY" difference. Maybe I was expecting too much...but something would have been nice. Reloader
Re: Recoil Pads The Pachmyr is a very good pad. you can get a fitted one for about $30 plus mounting it. Or as a cheaper option you can just go to Wal-Mart and buy a slip on Pachmyr for $10. It is the same recoil pad but instead of being screw mounted it just slides over the but of your rifle. More economical just not as classy. Other than the price the part I liked was that I was able to slip it over the factory pad on my 30-06 for extra padding. It does extend the pull on the rifle though so be careful if you decide to take that option that the gun still fits your shoulder.
johnf
Re: Recoil Pads Another vote for the limbsaver. I've only used it with 000 buck and slugs, but it made them feel like game loads. I'm not sure what it would do for lighter loads. My guess would be not as much.

too_pointer
Re: Recoil Pads I think most of the after-market pads are probably much better than the factory pads. I just put a Simm's on my TC Encore, haven't shot it yet though. I plan on putting one on my Rem 11-87 soon too_pointer
plannerman
Re: Recoil Pads Put a Sims on a Beretta slug gun, sighted and shot for 20 rounds. I don't think they're that great. If they are, I'm guessing I'd have had to been hospitalized after shooting it with the factory pad. Definitely something other than Sims next time. When I got home my shoulder was black & Blue with the bruses covering about the space of 1&1/2 softballs on my arm, shoulder & chest. A few weeks later with the sims pad I shot about 15 slugs out of it. I'm not going to say it didn't hurt, but there was no brusing and the next day I didn't feel it. My younger brother kept saying he wanted a 50 BMG...then he started big bore shooting and decided he wasn't anywhere near that tough ...
