2 blade vs. 3 blade ???

I plan to try mechanical heads on my new bow setup if it ever arrives, and I'm looking for everyone's opinion on 2 blade expandables (like the Eastman Outfitter's First Cut EXP shown below) vs. 3 blade expandables (like the Rocket Aerohead Steelhead XP shown below). I was almost set on the Grim Reapers but after further research the 2 heads listed above are on top of my list. I've read great reviews of both heads.

My own assumptions on the 2 vs. 3:

-I would think 2 blades would offer less resistance thus giving you better penetration.

-Having one less blade would allow the manufacturer to use heavier blades or heavier construction due to the weight savings.

-3 blades offer more cutting area, presumably giving better blood loss.

Just some random thoughts. What are yours?

I am looking at mechanical's too. The Steelhead-XP you and the Black Mamba

I think the 3 blade would be better just b/c it has an extra cutting surface. If the tip is a cut-on-contact you are probably going to get better penetration anyways, so I figured that the extra blade wouldnt slow it down any. Out of the 2 you listed I would go with the steelhead-XP. Maybe you can help me choose b/w the Steelhead-XP and the Black Mamba.

Re: 2 blade vs. 3 blade ???

I went through the same decision you are, about a month ago.

I was trying to decide between Rocky Mtn Ironheads, Rocket Nail Drivers and Rocket Steelheads.

I picked the steelheads basically because of the 3rd blade..

You may want to look and the Rocky Mtn Snyper. They are just coming out with a 3 blade model to go with their 2 blade.. All the reviews of Snypers are great also..

Re: 2 blade vs. 3 blade ???

Well, I actually have shot both heads you are looking in to. The Eastman provides a bigger cutting diameter, which in my opinion is what matters. In the past it was said that 2 blades cut a slit that was easier to clog where as 3 blade heads provide the cross cut which prevents this. I have some 100 grain Rocky Mountain Gators in my box, go search for some wounds that they leave in deer. They resemble a shotgun slug wound more than a broadhead hole. The Snypers have also been known to leave huge holes in deer as well. The XP tip on the Eastman will essentially provide you with 2 extra cutting surfaces that will in fact provide you with a cross cut, so as I said before, I would opt for a head with the larger cutting diameter, provided you are shooting a decent amount of KE.My Gators have a 2" cutting diameter and it takes ZERO effort to deploy the blades., so you may want to put them on the list too.

If you want, I have a pack of 125 grain Eastman First Cut EXP's just like you posted in the thread that I will sell you for $10 shipped if you want to try them out. I have never actually shot anything with these heads, but I hear they leave great wounds and bloodtrails.
