tedicast
Re: climbing treestands [ QUOTE ] good, reliable, and fairly inexpensive climbing treestands [/ QUOTE ] In my opinion it is hard to get the first 2 words to go together with inexpensive, when talking about climbers. You definately get what you pay for. I am a Summit user, and as far as climbers go, I won't buy another brand now that I used theirs. Are they inexpensive?...definately not. But they are rock steady, and quiet, and above all, comfortable. I use a Summit Broadhead Backpacker. Look on ebay, now is the time of the year to find a good deal on a treestand. There are always new in the box stands on ebay.
JimT
Re: climbing treestands Summit Viper X4. Save your pennies and do it right. Awsome stand. I love mine.
Chrud
Re: climbing treestands Check out the Lone Wolf Alpha Series. Summit's are very nice, but compared to my buddy's Lone Wolf, it is really big, bulky and heavy. The Lone Wolf (all of them) folds flat and weigh a good 5 pounds less than the Summits. That makes a big difference when walking through the woods.
tedicast
Re: climbing treestands [ QUOTE ] Those alphas are quite expensive though. pat [/ QUOTE ] Quality comes at a price!
tedicast
Re: climbing treestands I have never used a tree lounge personally, or ever even seen one for that matter. People I have talked to have said that yes they are a very good stand, but not for bowhunting. And also they are bulky to get into the woods, and set up. But, like I said, I have no experience with one myself.
tedicast
Re: climbing treestands [ QUOTE ] Im not saying ur wrong, because everybody has an opinion, but wherever u have gotten that information, in my opinion is wrong. It only weighs 27 pds, it is extremely comfortable and is great for bowhunting. pat [/ QUOTE ] Like i said...it's all second hand info there buddy. I have never even seen one. Chrud
Re: climbing treestands [ QUOTE ] It only weighs 27 pds [/ QUOTE ] No way would I buy that! It looks comfortable, but not for bowhunting. Seems big, bulky and looks like it would be real noisy to setup. I could never tote around a 30-pound stand through the woods. Like John said, quality comes with a price. A treestand is something NO ONE should really look at the price tag first. Quality is the main thing, even if it costs more. You are perched 15' up a tree. I sure want the very best stand I can get. I also have to use my hands to stand up, which means I am making alot of unnecassary movement. For gun hunting, the Lounge is awsome, but not my favorite for bow at all. Guest Leadbuck
Re: climbing treestands I have a cobra xls very easy to use and quiet. But the new models are out and I thinking about the new clearshot. This stand has a hand climber that you don't use for a seat. Most other stands use the hand climber for a seat which can get in the way for a shot behind the tree. Also can be noise's when you get up. Squirrelhunter91
Re: climbing treestands 27 pounds is heavy compared to the Summit Broadhed Backpacker which is 17 pounds... My dad has the Broadhead Backpacker... He loves it. I am saving up for the Summit Viper X4... My dad might get a new treestand so I might take the Broadhead Backpacker.. Guest kracey
Re: climbing treestands I have a summit Viper X4 as well. But before I got that I used a Hunter's view stand from walmart. Cost 100 bucks. It would good. Just b/c they are cheaper doesnt mean they are not good. Look into someting like that if you want something cheaper. It was strong, quiet and reliable. konfuzed
Re: climbing treestands Biggest difference I have seen in cheaper (read less costly) stands is the weight difference. Well that and the way they grip the tree.
Guest kracey
Re: climbing treestands I didnt post this before. But just b/c something is more expensive does not mean its better quality. My old $100 stand will work just as good for me as the summit.
Guest Leadbuck
Re: climbing treestands Take a look at ebay. There is a summit clearshot climbing stand there . The bid was 119.00.
longislandhunter
Re: climbing treestands I use a "summit" climber and love it. It's light to pack into the woods, very easy to use, adjusts easily to fit any diameter tree, is rock solid once locked into place, and is extremely comfortable. It was a little pricy but like others have said,, quality products cost more than others. Whatever brand you choose get the best you can afford and good luck with it. Illinoisbowhunter
Re: climbing treestands I would recommend the Summit Viper as many have said, or the Ol'Man Multivision/grandvision. I personally own the Grand Vision and dont have any complaints.

Norm Sauceman
Re: climbing treestands ANYTHING SUMMIT!!!!!! I LOVE the Viper XLS.. I used it for both Bow and Rifle seasons. You have to be a bit careful with a bow though, but it works very well.
WNY_Whitetailer
Re: climbing treestands And another vote for Summit...I bought a Viper Extreme XL 4 years ago for whitetail hunting. I took it out for archery and shotgun seasons and I loved it. The Viper top half has the bar in front which is great for gun but could be a problem for archery. I ordered a Cobra top half from Summit the next year and now I use the Viper stand for gun and then take the Cobra top half for archery season...It just use the same base for both...No problems man.
