Home-grown 3D

Well, there's a really good 3D tournament going on all weekend about 220 miles from here. Although it would have been great to attend, a bunch of us from around here elected to stay local and save a bunch on the skyrocketing price of gas.

So I set up a course at my place. Using my targets and several borrowed ones resulted in a circuit of 10.

They ranged from 15 to 45 yards, uphill, downhill, off a tree stand (ground level), in bush, across open ground, between trees, etc.

There were 17 shooters in all and we had a whale of a time, shooting 2 rounds and then gobbling down a batch of bbq'd hamburgers. I almost didn't shoot the second round, contemplating just going around with the camera instead. But, alas, no pictures.

Anybody else out there do this? It's a great alternative to going to some of the 'real' shoots, especially if you can virtually duplicate the situation. We all decided we'll have another at the earliest opportunity.

Oh ya, another thing we did was we all threw a few bucks in the kitty to take care of wear and tear on the targets. Should be able to buy a new Mackenzie every couple of shoots.

Re: Home-grown 3D

We've got a shoot like that in Broken Bow, OK. The guy owns a pro shop and his house butts up against a small forest. He has almost the exact set-up as you're describing. 10 targets from 15 to 35. He also has a balcony(15 feet up) on his garage where he will usually set up a three target set-up.

This is usually an invitation only tourney. He just invites a few of us and we shoot 2 rounds.

I would like to borrow around 5,000 from the bank and host a shoot on my land once a month. I'd be able to pay the loan off in two years and from then on use the money for the insurance and target/vital replacement costs.

One thing I would recommend is getting your shooters to sign a waiver form releasing you from liability in the event of an injury. It's not a "cure-all" but it helps.
