slugshooter
but I think he needs to go back to the bullpen. I now it was his first start in 4 years, but that was awful, maybe it was opening day jitters, I will say this, one more outing like that, especially if they are back to back, and I bet he goes back to the pen. DSGB
Re: I love John Smoltz...... I think he let his emotions get to him. He was way too pumped for the game. He was trying to blow pitches by batters instead of just throwing his pitches and letting the defense do it's job. Once he got behind in the count, they could sit on a pitch and hammer away. The Marlins did a good job of fouling off pitches until they got the one they were looking for. It was a terrible start for him, but I wouldn't count on it being the norm. The last three years on opening day, the Braves have been outscored something like 27-2. I didn't think I was going to make it through the first inning. When Giles started limping after the play at second, I was like, "Not again!" Oh well, there's still plenty of games left.

DSGB
Re: I love John Smoltz...... What do you think now? Should he go back to the closing role after his performance yesterday. 15 strikeouts and didin't give up a run 'til the two run job in the eighth. He's still got it! That was a great game. Both pitchers had their stuff. I feel like it was all my fault. I got home from turkey huntin', took a shower and sat down to watch the game. It was just starting the eighth inning. I should have never turned it on.
