Guest antlers21
What kind or style of release do most of you guys use? I have been using the tru fire hurricane with buckle. I see there are a lot of releases to chose from out there and just wanted some input.
Tony
Re: release i shoot a Carter One shot ...while it is expensive. it does come with a lifetime waranty.. there are many really good index finger caliper releases out there . the key is to have them set stiff and with no creep.... they also need to be set up short enough so that you can get at least the whole first joint of your finger around the trigger... Chrud
Re: release Also to one-up Tony, I shoot the Carter Two Shot. It is the best caliper release on the market. I also watched and ordered Carter's "Straight Talk From the Pro's" DVD. After seeing it the first time, I knew I had target panic and was using my release totally wrong. I'd be willing to be a majority of the folks on here do too and just don't know it. I thought I was a really good shot, sub 3" groups at 40 yards. But, I sure did have target panic and it was because my release (Scott Little Goose) had way too much creep and couldn't be set anywhere close to where I wanted it. The Two Shot changed that. No travel in the trigger and it is ULTRA heavy. You can actually squeeze the trigger. And, you can use it like a back tension. The most important thing in a release is that it is a surprise. If it isn't, you aren't shooting it right. The Two Shot give you the control to make the shot when you need to, but it still has a great surprise effect. Chrud
Re: release Some of you might not know what we mean when we say "zero travel" in the trigger. Here is are some pictures to better describe it. Notice the location of the trigger relative to the line drawn when the release is closed and after being shot. The trigger does not move at all. So, you need to squeeze it, silimar to a back tension. Picture of the release closed. Picture of the release after being fired. Picture of my Two Shot. The top two pictures are a little blurry, but you get the idea that the trigger doesn't move with the Carter Two Shot. I don't think I could ever go back to a "typical" caliper style release. need2hunt
Re: release I've shot the Winn Free Flight the last few seasons and have liked it alot. I "stole" a Carter two-shot from our buddy Chrud and have been practicing with that as of late. So far I prefer the Carter, I haven't got the back tension thing donw by any means but I do seem to be shooting more consistent with it than with my Winn Free Flight.
