Hey everybody, I'm on a turkey hunting trip down here in Georgia and the birds dont seem to be responding much to any types of calls. Has anyone else in Georgia been having a rough time locating birds the past week or is it just me. Appreciate your response, hopefully this nicer weather will make them start gobbling again

Re: Georgia Turkey Hunters??

hey, my cousin lives in georgia and he said the exact same thing you did. he told me the mistake he made was he was calling and not getting a response so he got up and was going to move and then he ended up spooking 2 strutting toms 50 yards from him. so i would hang in there and try using locatoter calls such as owl calls, good luck! i hope everything works out for you! smile.gif

Hey, yeah, we got some property down in south georgia. Hopefully you will get this in time for your next hunt. Opening weekend, I heard a lot of gobbling while the birds were on the roost, however, once they flew down, they grouped up with the hens pretty quickly. They then moved out into a field and strutted all day and would only answer to the occational thunder (it wasnt raining so that wasnt the issue). Last weekend, we decided to try something different. We minimized our calling and hoped that the toms would come in quiet looking to see what was making the sound. Well, once we located some birds in a small field, we set up and made very occasional calls. After about 25 minutes, we saw a small head coming over the crest of a hill. It turned out to be a huge bird but I couldnt get a shot. Later, we did the same thing. We called occasionally (a yelp or two or a purr every 5-10 minutes). After about +/- 35 minutes of this, a group of about 5 toms walked up from behind me. One of them gave me a shot and I got a bird on the ground.

Main Piece of Advice:

*Get out there early and try to call them off the roost

*After they get grouped up, try calling occasionally

(couple of yelps or a purr every 5-10 minutes)

*Don't move too quickly, give a spot a good 30+

minutes

*Don't quit if it gets too late, this is when the toms

are finally leaving the hens (around 10-11 am)

Good luck!!

I have not been able to pull a gobbler in for nothing either. I am hunting all over south Ga from clay county, to randolph county, lee county, and terrel county. It has all been the same. THe gobblers are henned up worse than I have seen in a while. Hopefully, Sporstman 2500 and I can take one out this weekend when we go hunting together. I am goin in the morning before school. IF they are henned up, try mimicking a hen when she clucks. I got to watch a hen take out my deke last week. Man, now that was awesome watchin that catfight.
