Turkeygirl
Well I missed hunting the opening day of bow season and all of Saturday and Sunday morning this past weekend due to being in the Adirondacks but I was home early enough to go out Sunday evening, saw a doe but she was past my shooting lane, moving fast and it was raining. Last night I saw nothing but 2 tree rats and Andy saw 3 does, 1 small buck and one of the "big" bucks, how come I never see them, lol How are the rest of you NYers doing? I'm going out tonight, would be awesome to get a bow deer all by myself, lol, but wouldn't be cool to have to drag it out. Best of luck to all of you hunting, NYer or not
paul23
Re: The NY season so far I've been seeing quite a few deer but they've been all does up north so far. Saw one really nice 6 point behind a guys yard. He was with 5 other doe. Looks like they're feeding them again this year. Can't decide if I want to stay down south tonight or head up north with the muzzleloader. Would like to get one before rifle season opens up there. Then I'll be spending most of the season back in the southern tier. Been seeing a lot of doe in the fields in the south while visiting freinds. There should be some big boys around like every year. good luck
rossman
Re: The NY season so far The weather here has been awful. Looks like a repeat or even worse than last season. I don;t know if I can take it anymore!!!!!
BuckNrut
Re: The NY season so far I went out Friday. Saw seven all day. Broke the seat on my stand so I brought it home. Stayed home Saturday AM to fix the stand, then left for an evening hunt. Only to have my car break down - made it back home and asked my neighbor if I could hunt with him. What a blessing! Saw 14 Sat PM, 16 Sun AM and 25 in the evening. Helped a member of the group find his deer (nice 9pt). I've been invited to hunt with these guys for the rest of the year and tomorrow night I'm going to hang my stand on the other side of the bean field I was hunting off of. There is a trail over there where most of the deer I saw entered or exited the bean field. Saw one real nice shooter estimated to be a 130 class deer. This is a QDM property with strict rules, but I don't mind letting all those small bucks pass.

Doc
Re: The NY season so far I really don't like bowhunting in the rain, and this year it looks like it's going to rain all season. I did get out yesterday morning and afternoon. I had a nice doe walked just out of my shooting range at 10:00 am. I spotted two more half way down the hill on my way home. They were bedded and ran off downhill. Other than that, I haven't done too well. Doc
paul23
Re: The NY season so far well me and my buddy saw zip tonight. Ended up being really nice out. Started around 4 and it was drizzling. About a hr later the rain held off and the wind was dead. Seemed like the perfect night. But we noticed all the deer were moving around noon today. Kinda expected nothing tonight.
MrWiggely
Re: The NY season so far so far I have seen 2 doe, and 4 bucks. All small except 1 doe which was just out of range. The bucks ranged from a 3point at 6 yards to a small basket 8point that will look real nice next year. Wigs

NYBUCK
Re: The NY season so far I posted this before but I will post it again since this is a NY thread. It was a real tough week-end for me. Thursday left work at 3:30 and hunted North at the camp where we had the get together. Never saw a thing. Did see a deer in the field across the camp when I was leaving. Friday was the opening for our archery season in the Southern teir. AM sat till 10 and saw absolutely nothing. PM did see 6 doe but none in range. The rain started Friday night and never stopped the rest of the week-end. Saturday AM saw one doe and one small buck. They never presented a shot. Saturday PM sat in my climber in a thunder a lighting storm and saw one deer. Crazy weather. Sunday AM went to another new stand that I thought would be pretty good and saw one deer off in the distance. Sunday afternoon hung two more stands in new areas. Sunday PM is when it gets interesting. I sat in yet another stand while the rain kept poring down. My brother - n - law was set up about 1000 yds from me in a real nice spot. At about 5:30 I heard his 4 wheeler start up, then it stopped and then it started a few minutes later. I figured he must have got something cause he is not one to get out of the woods at prime time even in the rain. So when I heard him go by my stand and get to his house I called him and he said he got a little one. I sat for a little while longer and then had to get down. Went back to his house and in the garage sat a nice 9 point 16 1/2 in spread. But the best thing about this buck was that it tipped the scales at just over 200 lbs. We had to take it to a couple establishments where we are in buck contest and the official weight came in at 202 !!!!! Wow. This was huge for our area. I am really happy for him. he hasn't killed a buck in 3 years in NY so he deserved it. We have been passing up small bucks and hopefully it is paying off. I took a bunch of pics and soon a s I get them developed I will post them. Now I need to put some meat in the freezer or the wife is going to kill me. I am a little discouraged at what I saw or rather what I ddin't see this week-end but hopefully that will change. I take every Friday off during hunting season so I leave work around 3 on Friday so hopefully this week-end will be good weather and they will be moving and starting to get active. NYBUCK
My brother-n-law (Waynes NY buck) I finally got them scanned .... This buck is huge for our area, the rack doesnt do him justice. He tipped the scales at 202 lbs. It was my brother-n-laws first buck in 3 years in NY. We have been passing up small ones and hopefully this is a result of that .... http://www.realtree.com/img/541/248301-med.jpg[/img

western NY bowhunter
Re: The NY season so far I'm hunting here in NE Steuben County and so far things are pretty slow. Althought I've only been out 4 times so far, I've seen more bucks than does. I've had 10 bucks (all yearlings) within 40 yds, but haven't got a shot yet. The funny thing is that I've only seen one deer from the stand so far and that was last night. I had just pulled my bow up into the tree and was attempting to get the rope off and I looked over just in time to see a buck 25 yds. away turn around and run the other way. On all the other bucks, I've been able to stalk within range of them after leaving the stands. Tuesday night I was able to get within 35-40 yds. of 5 little bucks that were sparring and pushing each other around. I haven't seen anything in a week or two of the several nice bucks that I watched all summer and fall in the alfalfa fields around the house, but I know that they're still around. The does are still stacking in the fields pretty good so it's just a matter of time before the nicer bucks start cruising and checking them out. I've heard of several people taking deer so far, but nothing big. Things should start to heat anytime now. I can't wait! Good luck to everyone! western NY bowhunter
Re: My brother-n-law (Waynes NY buck) That's a nice deer. What county? He looks like a big ole' northern zone buck.
NYBUCK
Re: My brother-n-law (Waynes NY buck) That deer is from Oneida County. I am leaving shortly to hunt tonight and the rest of the week-end. I really hope they start moving. Looks like the weather will be good tomorrow and Saturday and a little iffy on Sunday. NY911Bowhunter
Re: My brother-n-law (Waynes NY buck) Dang Jim, that is a hawg! The neck and briskett are huge!!! Good looking buck! On a side note - The NY Chapter is growing by leaps and bounds!
NYBUCK
Re: My brother-n-law (Waynes NY buck) Yes that deer is huge for our area. Especially for a southern teir buck. We are in a couple buck contest and that one could possible win the weight in both. I don't think the horns will. In the one contest there is over 300 entries. The raffle away like five guns (randomly) and pay out pretty good for the big bucks shot. This past week-end was much better than last. I saw three bucks a few does and another bear. I couldn't believe it. There is not suppose to be bear where I am in the southern teir. He just came out in the cut cornfield. That makes three bear I have seen in this area in the last two years. Turkeygirl
Re: My brother-n-law (Waynes NY buck) That is a huge buck!! I was hunting with a girl last year and she got an 8 point with a rack similar to that one but the body didn't nearly reach that size! It has been a slow week here for me in Allegany county until last night. I was inthe stand 20 minutes when a nice doe was 30 yards and was going to be at 20 when she came out on to the trail but the stand squeeked when I stood up and she spooked. Then a little while before it was too dark too shoot, a buck came out at 30, same place as doe, looked like he was going to come out to 20 then he spooked and ran back to 30, I shot but went under him(a combo I think ofexcitement and dropping the bow) So I think I'll take a break tonight and hunt turkeys. NYBUCK
Re: The NY season so far Well how did the week-end go for NY'ers. We should keep this post alive. My weekend was horrible, saw on spike and a few does. They just were not moving. Maybe because of the full moon, and wind and warm weather. I probably only saw 6 deer all week-end and it certainly wasn't for lack of effort. I sure hope the activity picks up soon. How did the other NYers fair??? NY911Bowhunter
Re: The NY season so far I cant explain it - this year so far has been horrible. I havnt seen deer barely at all. I havnt had anything within bow range. It is horrible - but things should be picking up. The property sale went through - I have to be off the land on November 8th! Turkeygirl
Re: The NY season so far Well on Friday while turkey hunting a doe ran in front of me with a buck behind her grunting, then I hit a deer Sunday night, lost the trail and went back yesterday morning and picked up the trail but no deer. I'm hoping I didn't hit her too bad. I also saw a nice buck out with 2 does in a field yesterday when I went to look for the hit deer, that was 11am! I believe the rut is picking up here in unit 9N but I probably won't get to hunt until tomorrow late or at least Thursday.
NYBUCK
Re: The NY season so far Well this is great, its Wednesday and it looks like it is the nicest day of th week. Rain Thursday, Friday and Sunday. Just what I need as I am nursing what I think is a bout of pnemonia. Sicker than a dog. Went to Dr's yesterday and got some med so hopefully it will take care of it. I am hopeing the deer will be moving better than last week-end. I also have a chance to go way up north to the camp we usually go but not sure if I want to pass up my last chance to bow hunt around here before I go to Illinois. I guess it will depend on how I feel later in the week.
