VermontHunter
Now here's a driver gents,,,,he goes 3 laps down early in the race and makes 2 of these 3 laps up all on his own and gets the last one back on the lucky dog pass, and now with less than 200 laps left in the Martinsville race he's back on the lead lap in 14th. and contending for the win....... This to me would more than show this guys driving ability and skill, in a tight race.....
VtBowhunter
Re: Jeff Gordon I couldn't have said it better myself. In defense of the non Gordon fans, they don't hate him because they don't think he can drive, they just don't like his personality. In fact if anyone here doesn't think he's got probablythe best skills in Nascar today, I'ld really like to hear why......not to start a debate, just to hear the opinion in an intellegent coversation without bashing Gordon or his fans. And I will ask again like I have many times before ,,,Name some instances that Jeff cried unjustly about something race related..... I just think it has more to with him being able to compete with anyone driving today.....and WIN
James7xChamp3
Re: Jeff Gordon His crying was more in the early days. He matured into the best driver in the sport today. He can drive any track. Speedways, super-speedways , short tracks and Road Courses......doesn't matter. I'm not a big fan, because I'm not drawn to his personality either, but I certainly respect him. I had to root for him at the end of the race because he was the only Chevy that had a chance after Labonte and Stewart went out. Martinsville is more of a drivers track, but Jeff was only part of the equation of why the 24 was in Victory Lane. The team itself desreves the credit. LOL j/k I'm not really a Jeff Gordan fan but I knew somehow after going 3 laps down that he would probably end up winning...that team is good! dg
Re: Jeff Gordon I wonder if a lesser no-name did that "bump-n-run" into Gordon, and put the 24 into the guardrail like 24 did to 97, would they have allowed it. Probably not.
snapper
Re: Jeff Gordon I don't care for Gordon, but this isn't a bash towards him...I think he is very talented. With that said...I can't stand to see someone win a race that got 1 or more laps back becasue of this stupid "lucky dog" rule. I don't care who the driver is...I don't like just "giving" a lap to a driver just because of where they are on the track when the yellow comes out! Like you said Snap, 2 out of 3 isn't 3 out of 3. I'm not a big fan of the lucky dog rule. But, no racing back to the yellow is the right thing to do. I don't really know if there is any other way you could handle something like that. Unless if you go a lap down you have to earn it back by being in front of the leaders when the yellow comes out. But, then the leaders get upset because lap cars are racing with them.

[/ QUOTE ] Well assumption or not, with the car that Gordon had on Sunday I have NO doubt he would have gotton' that 3rd. lap back,,,but to win the race would have been very difficult to say the least. And I think Chrud explained it best in his post,,,If you want drivers to earn their way back to the lead lap,,,,NASCAR will have to let them race to the caution, and we all know that's not going to happen. As I recall no one ever had an issue with any other driver getting the lucky dog until Gordon got 1 , not 2 or 3 but 1 lap back using this rule, so why would it be an issue now.... It's a done deal anyhow, and there's no changing that,,,but Gordon still has alot of ground to make up for the last 2 bad finishes he had... As for Gordon bumping Busch out of the way well, all I can say it was 2 lead lap cars fight for position and the race was winding down and time to go, and he did have a fender under Busch,,,,I just saw this one as two cars fighting for the same realstate,,,,and it was Martinsville... [/ QUOTE ] What "no ones" are you talking about?? I'm assuming maybe friends or people on this forum? I heard and hear many complaints about it all the time. They should be racing back to the yellow like they have always done.....with minimal problems or trajedies. This was just another "jumping the gun" by NASCAR when safety issues in the sport itself were called into question.
VermontHunter
Re: Jeff Gordon [ QUOTE ] What "no ones" are you talking about?? I'm assuming maybe friends or people on this forum? [/ QUOTE ] Friends as well as here on the forums,,,mainly I had no problems with the racing back to the YELLOW but it seems nascar did and changed this rule and choose to freeze the field. Since this was done I have seen more than my share of drivers get their lap or laps back using the lucky dog pass, and nothing on here was ever mentioned about it until this weekends race when Gordon Happened to get 1 of his 3 laps back using it, and so happens he had a car good enough to win the race and now it gets metioned that it some how spoiled the win...I don't se it this way this is the nascar setup the rules and they were followed to the "T". Would I prefer the earn their laps back using the old rule system concerning Yellow Cautions ???? YOU BET thats where alot of the excitement of nascar racing was, but you and I both know that this rule of not racing back to the Yellow is not going to be changed....... So to say that this some how tainted Gordons win, is totally unfair IMO...
James7xChamp3
Re: Jeff Gordon That is what I thought. It doesn't taint Gordons win at all. Everyone races by the same rules. People like to mess with Gordon fans is all. Just relax and enjoy the good times when they come. Heck, I'm patently waiting for the 8 team to get it done. At least you've enjoyed a couple victories.............even if it's only Gordon! lol! Besides the teams performance, the biggest factor of all was luck...........by having all the cautions. Without them, it never would have been.
