Re: who works sick

I used to work sick...unless I had the runs or was puking.

Caution: Venting ahead!

However, my most recent employer was ridiculous. I had a sinus infection and BLEW OUT AN EARDRUM AT MY DESK! shocked.gif Blood was pouring out my ear. I stayed(with a tissue in my ear to sop up the blood) for 2 more hours to see clients(I am a counselor so I try not to cancel my clients unless I am contagious). I finally had to leave and had the secretary cancel my last 2 clients of the day. The company demanded I bring a doctors note to prove I had it looked at before they could approve the sick time.

A month later I got an ulcer in my throat(job stress) and missed 2 days came back still hurting then missed 2 more the next week because I was back in the doctors office for stronger meds and a gargle with full anesthetic in it to numb my throat so I could talk. Again they demanded a doctors note when I came back to work. They fired me the next week because I wasn't getting enough work done...

I will never work that hard for an ungrateful company again... mad.gif

As a side note the ulcer that didn't respond to treatment was gone within 3 days of being fired smirk.gif...how’s that for job stress related illness... mad.gif

Re: who works sick

When I was teaching I discovered it was much easier to come in sick then it was preparing everything for a sub: I taught for 6 years and had taken 4 sick days: 2 of which were for doctors appointments the other 2 were (1) because I literally was sick enough to about schat myself, at work...and the other because I was keyed in on a hot walleye bite :-)

Go to work sick...yup: I'll save the sick days until I am dying.....

It is way more work to be sick then it is to show up sick...and when surrounded by those little "disease factories" (called 1st graders) I just try to wash my hands and get good nights sleep: It seems to work!

Re: who works sick

I've been at my job for 23yrs and just recently called in sick on a Saturday-never took a sick day before that.I didn't even take the sick pay because it was only a 3 hr day.I get 5 paid sick days/year and if I don't use them-they'll pay them out in December. It's a good incentive to be at work but I also believe that I'm being paid to do a service so I go to work every day.

Re: who works sick

I dont work yet, still in college... but when i did work i went to work no matter what, until my boss told me to go home. Starting May 2nd, i'll be a mechanic at a GM Dealership, so i doubt i'll be taking any sick days off then! i usually go to work or school unless i am so sick that i cant get out of bed, and i hardly ever get sick at all. *knock on wood* grin.gif

I take pride in my job attendance, in 23 years i missed 2 days at one job, then in 5 years i missed 0, but then again everyone is not like me. I say take pride in your self and the work you do.
