Yes, on a couple of occasions. I watched two Toms take on three one afternoon. I was amazed at how high they would jump to try and hook the neck and head of their opponant. Lots of feathers flying.

Re: Witnessing a Turkey Fight?

I had the most exciting hunt in New Mexico on top of one of the mountains of the San de Cristo mountain range and was watching two toms with a group of hens. When they got to the top they started fightin' and as they were jumpin', gobblin', and tryin' to spur each other, necks twistin' I was sittin' Indian style and arm walkin' closer and closer real slow. Then from the backside of the mountain another gobbler came in and joined the ruckus. I tell ya, it was loud, fierce and awesome to watch. I was in gun range and was just waiting for it to end. It was a two bird limit and I was huntin' my second bird. One shot could have killed all three the way they were twistin' their necks together. Well as I'm getting situated for the anticipated shot a hen not five yards away spots me and clucks real loud. At that cluck, all three of those longbeards stopped fightin' and went into full strut. Each fan was touchin' each others as they turned to face the hen and me. I picked one out and fired. Turkeys went everywhere, none tipped over. Shootin' a double barrel 10 gauge, I aimed the second barrel at the one flyin past me at 5 yards. Boom, turkey kept flyin'. I tell ya what, I'll never forget that hunt. I almost thru that 10 gauge off that mountain but chose a boulder instead. Guess my cheek wasn't down on the bead and the second shot was just like a bullet and I flat out missed. I later found a artist drawing of three toms all fanned out in the mist and a large log in front of them. It's almost identical to the image in my mind of that hunt. It constantly reminds me of one of my most exciting hunts.

Re: Witnessing a Turkey Fight?

A few times. They sure do fight noisy!!

Years back, I got some decent video of a 5 or 6 way gobbler fight in a field. They were all just a gettin' it!! Then out of nowhere comes this BIG old boy...........running like a shot across the field and lays right into the middle of the whole wad of fighting gobblers!! The fight ended seconds later. Very cool thing to watch.

Re: Witnessing a Turkey Fight?

Cove's jake tale reminds me of another. I was slippin' over a knoll to take a look at a pasture and no sooner than I got settled, a group of turkeys to my left started making a very loud ruckus. Wings flappin' everywhere and turkey's jumpin up and down against each other, when it all ended it was seven jakes and two longbeards. Of course the jakes went off whooped together, away from me. The two longbeards went out in the middle of the pasture to display. Well, I'm sittin' there watchin' those longbeards, figure I'm in a good spot as they had always left the way they entered the pasture on previous occassions. So I'm sitting watchin', when I catch those seven turks coming back my way, each one side by side. I notice the one on the far left had a very thick long beard. My mind said full grown tom, so I punched him with a load of sixes from my 10. He went down, the other jakes flew, he started floppin' up a storm. At one point he fanned in death and I saw his jake tail. I was cursing myself for screwing up the possiblity of getting that longbeard out there. I'd been chasin' him for several weeks. What happened next flabbergasted me. The boss of those two out in the middle saw the flappin' and I guess he thought another fight was on and he needed to step in. That bird walked a good hundred yards, across a wooden bridge, all tall and strong like, quick steppin' but not runnin', when he got to the jake he had died and that longbeard just looked down at him, said PUTT and I said blam. I got the bird I was after. Remarkable!
