billygoat
Last year my two dogs wrestled w/ fleas, despite being treated monthly w/ topical treatments and baths. This year, the spring has been extremely warm, and it seems as though the problem is back So what should I be using (advantix, frontline, k9????), or is there an oral agent that will work better? Also the wife swears that we now have fleas in our house . Mind you she keeps a spotless house (but the dogs are inside dogs). I have "fogged" the house several times last year and used carpet treatments. So what does a guy have to do to get rid of these little pains in the butt!!!!? Finally, will using insect control "fertilizer" on the yard, help control the problem? Nothing like a great forum to go for help
too_pointer
Re: Dogdoc: need Vet help! I seems to me that the heart worm med we give our dog has flea control in with it. At least I think it does, and it works good for me. too_pointer

dogdoc
Re: Dogdoc: need Vet help! billygoat----either one will work fine. Advantix and frontline are both great products and work very well. They are applied monthy. The product too_ is probably talking about is revolution---it is a topical heartworm prevention that also prevents/controls mange, ear mites, fleas, and a few intestinal parasites. It has a label for ticks but I have found it is not very effective against ticks. good luck--and if the dogs have fleas and live indoors then you DO have fleas in the house! todd

Turkeygirl
Re: Dogdoc: need Vet help! We use Advantage that we get from our vet. It works really well, just give the dogs drops once a month and takes care of the fleas. We do our cats also. It is a bit pricey but it works! [ QUOTE ] billygoat---and if the dogs have fleas and live indoors then you DO have fleas in the house! todd [/ QUOTE ] So how do I fix that problem... next to forcing the dog's outside (all of the time)? [which I am sure the wife won't go for] I have bombed the house several times last fall, but not at all this spring, should I just stay the course? archerjg
Re: Dogdoc: need Vet help! We use Frontline and it seems to take care of all the fleas. When we had cats that were both inside and outside we had fleas pretty bad in the house. A couple of raid foggers and the fleas were gone for good. buckee
Re: Dogdoc: need Vet help! [ QUOTE ] So how do I fix that problem... [/ QUOTE ] SHOTGUN with #9 shot......blast em good. If the pellets don't hit em, the powder burns will get em ... I'm talking about the flees, not the poor pooch
dogdoc
Re: Dogdoc: need Vet help! billygoat----you can use the bombs and they will help but if you just put the frontline or advantage on the dog this will eventually kill all the fleas in the house also! Norm Sauceman
Re: Dogdoc: need Vet help! I used to buy a vitamin from Walmart a loong time ago (15+ yrs) and it was the most awesome stuff I had ever had. It had flea control and worm control as well. I think it was called, or had something in the name as "Fleas-off".. I would buy it by the case every 3-4 months then they changed suppliers and stopped carrying it. I sure wish I could find that again.
wtnhunt
Re: Dogdoc: need Vet help! We use a couple different insecticides in the yard. I put out granular either permethrin based or another cannot remember and rotate to keep down the fleas ticks and mole crickets in the yard. Our dog, which is an outside dog, did not have a problem with fleas last year. We treated the yard and used the hartz brand flea and tick liquid you pour down their spine.
