They'll set a net every couple of years or so in roughly the same spot. They note the number, size, and species of fish caught in the nets to help determine how healthy that particular fishery is. Then do a search for Guntersville lake. This will give you an idea if what gill nets will do. You may have go back about a month to see the real problem.
