borch
No they roost in trees. But I know what you mean. At times it seems like the earth just swallows them up. Especially when you don't hear or see them for a while and there's still sign all over. Borch

muggs
Re: Do Turkeys Roost In The Ground??? Ryan I'm not really sure about their nesting habits, but the roost in trees. I could believe they roost in thick stuff, but i've never seen it. Always, groves of straight, tall tress from my experience.
Guest gobblergetter15
Re: Do Turkeys Roost In The Ground??? I agree with muggs they roost in trees only unless they have eggs on the ground then they just sit on the nest.
Guest BRDNSPR
Re: Do Turkeys Roost In The Ground??? Sorry - That hurt , I fell off my chair when I read that. You guys are correct above. The day I see a turkey crawling out of a woodchuck hole is the day I go home and have a cold one...

Squirrelhunter91
Re: Do Turkeys Roost In The Ground??? No I think a hen will stay on the roost before the eggs hatch only for her safety purposes.. justin hunter, You might have found areas where the holes were dug out and made sand mounds. The turkeys might have been giving themselves dust baths in the sand.
Turkeygirl
Re: Do Turkeys Roost In The Ground??? I've seen turkeys sometimes try to hide in tall grass or brush, never seen one roost in the ground, definitely seen them roost in trees! I think turkeys like to scratch around though in dirt piles outside of woodchuck hoels and such.
