Jeramie
We have had so much rain the Fescue was out of control. The aborigines were keeping us up at night with their drum beats so it was time to mow it down. It was literally over ankle deep and thick as a quilt (wild fescue). My wife decided to mow last weekend while I was working. I dug out the rider while she went to retrieve gas. I mowed a patch strip and the belt came off the deck. I worked for a while and got everything lined back out once again. I noticed it (the belt) was seriously stretched. I knew it would break but hoped it would make it through one more mowing. We just bought the mower last year so the belt is only a year old. My wife got back with the gas and I sent her on her way around the yard. About 5-minutes into her adventure (with the height of the grass it really was an adventure) the belt snapped. Off to town again she goes. I had to drop the front of the deck to get the belt on. Luckily it wasn’t horrible and 20 minutes later she was buzzing in circles. We added everything up after she was finished.... With the $17 belt and the almost $15 it took to fill the gas can we had over $30 in the grass. Granted I still have gas left and the belt will easily make it through the summer but now the deck needs leveled and the blades need sharpened (good thing I got a new bench grinder for Christmas from mom and dad).... It already needs mowed again and it’s only been a week..... Literally. Im either pouring the entire yard in concrete and staining it green or im throwing a couple of goats in the yard. The goats will make more of a mess but are much cheaper in the long run.
Guest Andrea
Re: I\'m buying a goat or something..... Don't ya just love lawnmowers and chainsaws and boat motors? There won't be any of those in heaven. I'd go with the green concrete. Goats smell and will eventually start eating things you don't want eaten. Tominator
Re: I\'m buying a goat or something..... Sad to say, but my lawn has become another hobby of mine. my front lawn is about an acre in size, and I take pretty good care of it. I got fed up with air cooled gas mowers a few years ago, bit the bullet, and bought a diesel Kubota. I can mow my lawn about 4 or 5 times on one tank of diesel, compared to 1.5 times with gas. Diesel is much more efficient.
Guest gfourhunter
Re: I\'m buying a goat or something..... i invested in kids. i took a year or two for them to grow but when they got big enough, that is there job to mow the yard. well worth the money in the summer. you can turn them in on taxes to. $$$$$ in the long run. Newarcher
Re: I\'m buying a goat or something..... Hey Tominator.... I looked at the Kubotas. So what you are telling us is that you bought a $10,000 + lawnmower to save $1.50 per mowing? New
WHISKEYSWAMP
Re: I\'m buying a goat or something..... Here's my new mower... actually it's my first... I just bought 9.5 acres mostly open... luckily there a pasture area that doesn't grow too fast but still leaves about 4-5 acres to mow on a regular basis. Actually, my tractor was more like $9,000 I think, and I'm really hoping it will last more than 3 years which is what the gas mowers were averaging. On top of that, I have a 4' tiller and now a 5' snow blade for it, which the gas mowers couldn't handle. I put a little over 100 hours on my tractor every year. Hey Whiskey-- Lower that loader a little so I can see the model of your Kubota. It looks a lot like mine, but might be a hair bigger. Is it the BX2200? I have the BX1800. markyj987
Re: I\'m buying a goat or something..... Skip the concrete....just roll some astroturf over it. It'll kill the grass below it....and you'll never have to mow again.
wtnhunt
Re: I\'m buying a goat or something..... Nice mower whiskeyswamp. That is what I need for our yard. Thought about a finish mower for our kubota, but it is just too big for mowing around the yard.
