Outsourcing strikes again.

Well folks, the Black and Decker plant here in Fayetteville that laid off 300 people last year before Christmas announced the other day that they will be closing at the end of next year. The jobs will be going to Jackson, TN and Reynosa, Mexico and approximately 700 people here in Fayetteville will be looking for work. Outsourcing not only affects the workers at the plants, but it affects the businesses around it, the restaurants that get most of their lunchtime business from the plants, to the manufacturers who supply parts to the plant.

What about the families involved, some have been working there for ten years or more, are they to uproot their families and move to a different state because the company was trying to save money. Black and Decker itself didn't pay it's employees much, but I am sure that ones who made the decision to close the plant have no financial worries. The unemployment line in Fayetteville is about to get a little longer here soon, is it the peoples fault if they cannot find a job in this town to support their families. Before you tell someone to get off their rears or move somewhere where there are better or more jobs, look at their situation, and ask yourself if it is their fault that they are in the situation they are in, or are they victims of corporate greed.

Re: Outsourcing strikes again.

This is spooky. For the second time in a row I'm in agreement with slugoo. I think one of the biggest problems with our economy is outsourcing. I think it's dispicable that a company sends jobs over seas or over the river in this case.

Who's gonna buy their stuff if all the jobs are somewhere else?

Come on TSBH, Slug said he was a security guard at a college. He's not out of a job.

This is a Government conspiracy. ooo.gif

We outsource jobs to Mexico so that the Mexicans have jobs, so they don't sneak across the border and take the good jobs here in the U.S., that the Americans want. ooo.gif

I see black Suburbans and Helicopters flying around the neighborhoods now looking for more factories to close, or move, or jobs to move across the border. crazy.gif

Soon, a lot of those unemployed from North Carolina will be sneaking across the border to work in Mexico. shocked.gif

Every community has their problems. .....popgun

Re: Outsourcing strikes again.

Hmm... I gotta see the numbers on the factory. Obviously it was much more cost effective to build a plant in mexico and sell to the united states. You can't tell an unskilled worker that he's gonna have to take a pay cut. I think its time some people in america wake up and smell the coffee. These Big Companys are being forced to pay higher wages, pay benifits etc. There's no way they can make a normal profit in many instances. Also. Black and Decker competes with foreign imported tools. And as we all should know, american goods are typicaly higher priced than the stuff made in asia. If you look at great britian. They went from industrial giant to service nation. Merchants, technology, programmers, doctors. Thats the same way america is going to go. Its too bad the company has to move out, but in our socity, factory jobs are being phased out fast. IMO, the people of this factory should have tried to get some form of higher education and training so they could go into a skilled position.

You gonna pay their tuition and living expenses while they attend school....

This is a tough issue since both sides have a good point...and anyone who tries to make it simple and one sided(on either side) isn't looking close enough at the issue.

Sluggo is right about the local economy being based on the factory..it will affect a much larger work force than the 700 that technicaly loose their jobs directly. Something is likely to replace it at some point but who knows what or when...

Hoping the best for you and your town Sluggo!

Starting pay at that particular factory was MINIMUM WAGE, I know, because I applied for a job there when I was on my 6 month job search. I guess they couldn't make a profit paying people minimum wage to assemble 100+ dollar table saws. Go figure confused.gif

I can't remember what part of AR your from popgun, but if Tyson decided to move to Mexico it would bankrupt the western half of the state. (excluding Bentonville of course)

That's not something I take very lightly
