Hoyt03
Well i hunted a spot tonight roughly 80 yards from a field. I left the woods at 6:50 tonight, got to my car drove back around to the the opening of the field. Its now 7:10 and to my surprise heres this big guy standing on the edge of the field with nice rack and a 6 or so inch drop tine (public land to). My question...I left the woods and it was completely dark 6:50, 20 minutes later this guy is 80 yards from my stand out in the edge of the field and I know he came from back where my stand was cause its a small maybe 30 acre wood lot. This is the first time Ive seen this guy and he has to be moving after dark. Do you think my best shot to get him would be early morning, I'm guessing he has to walk around sometime, and I know he came out of this 30 acre lot, he had to, theres not much else around. It was very wet tonight I know I didnt spook him, and my guess is he'll probaly run around the fields all night. Do bucks usually come back in the same place they went out of or is it possible they wander from spot to spot? Appreciate any help.. i really want to tag this big boy. dogdoc
Re: Big Buck question i think your best bet is to move the stand just a little deeper in the wood lot. todd
Hoyt03
Re: Big Buck question So you think he was on the move before it got dark, he just didnt get out to me yet? That sounds like a good idea, what do you think about catching him coming back in the morning? What time do the deer usually leave the fields and go back into the woods? dogdoc
Re: Big Buck question the toughest part of the morning hunt is spooking him while going to your stand. Can you get to your stand without entering the field? If so--you might be able to get him going back to his bedding area. Just remember--he didn't get big being stupid. About the only time they start to get stupid is when the girls get hot. best of luck todd
Hoyt03
Re: Big Buck question I access my stand from the back side opposite the field and I have to cross a wide stream to get in. So I can definitely sneak in. Its a few mile drive the get over to the field from where I park due to the roads.
magnatecsteve
Re: Big Buck question Get the slip on him NOW!!! You're hunting public land(reason one not to wait). Plus, after the rut kicks in... you don't know where the heck he'll end up!! Those big bucks will cruise miles for hot does!! You don't get too many chances on mature bucks, so make your move now! Best of luck!

Ravin R10 man
Re: Big Buck question Id stay put. he will come by you sooner or later. Dont push him too hard, or he will be gone! Play the wind right, and dont try to catch him along the field edge, that seldom works, and you cant get out without spooking the deer. Go in and out the backside like you are doing.
