lever action accuracy

I just got back from the range where I sighted in my Savage 99F 308. I monuted a Leupold 2-7x VAriX-II on it this past week & wanted to see how it would shoot. It did far better than I would have imagined. Using 180 grain Remington Core Lokts I was shooting nice small 3 shot groups all under 1" at 100 yards. What a beauty of a light, fast handling hunter! grin.gif

The best any of the three would do is about 2" or 2 1/2". I got rid of mine. Wouldn't shoot worth a darn.

A trick with the 99s is to play with the action screw tension (runs through the Butt and pulls the action into the stock) MAke sure you get no stock movement & then add or take away tension and watch your groups. You can do the same withe the forestock screw. Some guys even bed the stocks but I have never had to do this. With a bit of experimenting you should be able to get at least 1.5" at 100 yards for 3 shot groups. And many will do 1 MOA or better.

I wish I'd know you were dumping one LOL grin.gif

Re: lever action accuracy

Being a fellow "wrong sided" shooter .........they are some of the best options that we have to shoot one of the old classic hunting rifles.

FAst handling. Accurate. Easy to shoot for right & left handed shooters alike. All in all a great design. You added a winner!
