markyj987
I'm just wondering what the strangest piece of debris or discarded things you've all seen while in the woods? Though it ticked me off that someone was obviously trespassing on his land, I couldn't help but laugh when I saw a bowling ball in the middle of a bunch of hardwoods. buckee
Re: Woodland \"debris\" I found a TV along with a bunch of regular green garbage bags full of weekly garbage in the bush on one of my favourite farms, just off a little access lane going along the creek edge. Pretty disgusting that someone would have the nerve to pull in there, on private property, and unload their garbage.

When I hunt by the Arkansas River, I see tons of crap that has washed up. Really looks bad. Seen soccer balls, basketballs, bicycle helmets, foam........... Guest Andrea
Re: Woodland \"debris\" My Dad lucks up sometimes when he is surveying. When I was in jr. high he found a motorcycle with a helmet deep in the woods. No tag. He brought it home and gave it to me. It ran just fine. Just needed some gas. Then he found a 35 mm camera ( cost around $800-$1200 new) with a detachable telephoto lense. Took it and got it repaired for a few bucks and it still takes beautiful pics. Jeramie
Re: Woodland \"debris\" We walked WAY back in the sticks this past weekend and I found a Chip bag. It was odd because this was a long way off the beaten path. We have also found an old Whiskey Steel. Ive seen some pretty amazing stuff. About my favorite is when Im back in an area im sure no one has been through (or at least visited in countless years) and then you find a set of old wood steps heading up a tree..... Alisha
Re: Woodland \"debris\" Dad and I found a set of rattling antlers while squirrel hunting a few years ago. Both sheds had holes drilled through the base with a small strand of leather running through it and tied in a knot on the other side so you could carry them around your neck or what have you. Other than that... nothing more than pop bottles or something that someone was too lazy to carry out of the woods.
Guest Phaseolus (BeanMan)
Re: Woodland \"debris\" In 1988 a friend and I found, while bowhunting for elk, the wreck of a WWII era A-20 Boston that had been modified for slurry bombing. It was on a ridgetop on Battelment Mesa, Colorado. We checked out the story with the State Patrol. Apparently it had clipped the top of the ridge while fighting a forest fire in the 70's. Both pilots were killed. Phaseolus the beanman

Doc
Re: Woodland \"debris\" I once found two American $1 bills on the shoreline of an Ontario, Canada lake that was only accessable by air. ...........What are the odds?? I have also found remains of an old sugar shack half way up the hill behind our house. Also have found an old horse drawn potato hiller in the middle of the woods and some broken plow shares in an area that, if you studied it real close, you could tell it was on the edge of what used to be a field some time on the last century. Also, when I was clearing away some leaves from one of my groundstands, I found a horseshoe. I have also found a lot of old cow or horse bones way up in the middle of the hill. The list goes on and on, from old whisky bottles to the remnants of helium filled plastic party balloons. It appears that man always leaves behind some sign of his presence everywhere he goes. longislandhunter
Re: Woodland \"debris\" One of the pieces of land I hunt on used to be a military target/training range during WW II. If you look closely you can find expended artillery shells, machine gun ammunition brass and all kinds of twisted metal fragments in and under the leaf debris. Matter of fact last year a hunting buddy of mine found an interesting looking piece of debris, tossed it into the back of his truck where it sat for about a week. One day he was talking to one of our bomb specialists from our emergency services unit and asked him if he would take a look at it and tell him what it was. The bomb specialists took one look, backed away from the truck, and proceeded to have the rest of the bomb squad respond so that they could safely remove what was now identified as a still live 1940's era landmine. They safely removed it and detonated it at our firearms range. The land was supposedly cleared by the military years ago when they turned it over to the county parks dept.,, but I guess they missed one. I still hunt there but I'm careful not to disturb anything I see sticking out of the ground cover and I no longer look for souveniers during my time in those woods.
