Ravin R10 man
Friday we got in half the day...lil had about 8 birds walk by her blind just before closing, one may have been a jake. On Sat. am she calls in two toms full strut right to within 10 feet of her blind and they go into the woods right behind her blind, spittin and drummin!! she said 3 more inches she could have killed one!! Friday I had nothing by me at all. Sat am set up and heard a gobbler on a ridge above me, go up and stay on the low side and set up...nothing he goes silent. I go up the ridge and try to catch up with him, and just before a plateau, I figured he has to be there.....I ease up and just as I peek over he had dropped off the side and there he went crashing and beating his way down no shot. jumped two more while walking trails, but just didnt feel like taking a chance on a strait away bird. Today I set up on the back side of this farm I was on, and had two gobblers come out right out of range and walk out past me.....they head over towards a boss tom that was just cuttin it up on a ridge. I followed about an hour later, and got to the top right after a gobbler had went over. I figured he was strutting that ridge chasing hens. I should have dropped off the top and got down on the flat, but decided to set up and call on top....got one to come up off a field and just hittin every call!! Then he hangs up just at the base of the hill about 50 yards out... That was that for us this year...we got close seceral times, but even the seasoned callers that are really good, said that the birds were not responding to calls. At any rate..I got some new ground to hunt next year and know where to set up too. Think I'll try to hutn the full 4 days instead of two. borch
Re: Oneida and Lil-blonde got close....... Sounds like you had a lot of action. Sometimes it just doesn't work out. But shooting a bird is just icing on the cake.

Ravin R10 man
Re: Oneida and Lil-blonde got close....... We have six- four day seasons, Wed. the 13th was our opener. We had a blast anyway, got close to birds, but they were not coming to calls like they should. Not out during the day either yet. Maybe I'll go this fall, and get revenge then!...LOL
