RatherBowHunt
Ok guys....Season opened on saturday and i only got to hunt saturday and sunday and all the birds had hens....it was extremely hard hunting....the first day i roosted the birds and set up on them the next morning.....they gobbled their heads off in the roost then flew down with the hens and gobbled maybe once or two more times and never said another word....So, that night i put them to bed again and the roosted in the same trees....the next morning i got in there at about 5 pitch black got the decoys out and set up to the side of them about 20 yards away, they never knew i was there.....then when the hen next to me flew down into my decoys i thought i was in the chips....the gobblers didnt fly down for maybe 20 minutes later finally they came and i have 5 longbeards all around me strutting and i never got a shot....two more steps by the big-boy out of the brush and i coulda had my 2nd gobbler...but no the hen decided to walk off and there went the gobblers.....they left the same way they did the day before......Now, i can hunt on Thursday and im hoping they will still be roosting there....should i set up on the side that they left and walked to each morning and just shut up and wait for them to walk by or what???? Im stuck guys!?
sportsman2500
Re: Help!!!! IMO i'd set up in the direction that they've been walking when they fly down. If you havn't spooked them witch it sounds like you havn't then they should do the same thing when you go back. Good luck with the birds. be patient!! Guest Rhinodog
Re: Help!!!! [ QUOTE ] Set between the roosting area and where they go and let the hen bring them right to you. I wouldn't even make a call. That's what you call ambushing them. [/ QUOTE ] Yep, that's what I'd do too.
Guest gobblergetter15
Re: Help!!!! I agree with gobbler1 if you can get in their path then you should be able to just sit and wait for them to show up.
