Re: Dog doc dogs and west nile?

There is no vaccine for dogs and I doubt there will be one any time soon. If you have a healthy dog than I wouldn't worry about. We have not seen a case in a dog in oklahoma yet but we are seeing a lot of horse cases.

I would bet the dog that was infected with the virus and got sick had an underlying problem that was causing some immune suppression.

There is a fairly new product out called Advantix, it controls fleas, ticks, and repells mosquitoes off dogs. If you are in an area with West Nile than I would strongly recommend that! Do not use this product on cats!

good luck

Re: Dog doc dogs and west nile?

Mosquitoes are really bad this year so make sure horses are vaccinated for West Nile. As far as dogs I would be more worried about tics than anything. They seem to be worse this year than they have been in some time. I thought the really bad winter we had would help to thin them but they seem to be extremely thick. mad.gif
