i have a question for you guys/gals

i shot a doe last nite and decided to let it lay for today.

my question is i shot alittle high but it was a good shot, my arrow did not get a complete pass through.

why is this? i shot probably 3 in. above the heart and below the spine. the arrow went half way through and as she ran i saw the arrow sticking out at both ends. (through her body cavity)

she was standing 13 yards away broadside.

i shoot a easton 2315 (al) 125 gr. muzzy (4 blade)

my bow is a mathews sq2 and i am pulling back 55#

my arrow speed is 235-240 fps.

just wanted to know your thoughts

thanks

nate

Re: shot penitration

YOU DONT NEED A PASS THROUGH TO KILL A DEER.I SHOOT ABOUT 60# WITH ABOUT THE SAME ARROW SPEED AS YOU,AND I HAVE NEVER BLOWN THROUGH A DEER.I HAVE HAD THE BROADHEAD STICK OUT THE OTHER SIDE LIKE YOURS DID.A PASS THROUGH DOES MAKE THE TRACKING JOB A LITTLE EASIER THOUGH.HOPE YOU FIND YOUR DOE!!

Re: shot penitration

Depending on how high a "little high" is, u may have grazed the top of her lungs and found that dead zone of meat & muscle between the lungs & spine. If that's the case, it takes a lot of bow to blow through that area. I've hit that area with shotgun slugs before and never found an exit hole lol. Like someone else mentioned as well, you may have hit a rib, etc., won't know for sure till you find her. Good luck finding her bud smile.gif !!

Re: shot penitration

Not haveing a pass threw in not always a bad thing! I shot a buck couple years back and didnt didnt pass threw! He went about 70 yards and crashed! But thats the only one i have had!! You might wanna check out a Kentic Energy chart and see how your shooting!!! That might have something to do with it if it happens all the time!!! Might wanna check into it!
