kooter
for gun hunting I put mine out about 20 yards, if you are bowhunting, put them closer under 10 yards.
dodge4x4
Re: HOW FAR i typically do 15-20 yards. you don't want them so close that you can't move a little if you need because the turkeys are right on top of ya, and you don't want them so far that you can't make a good shot. huntinsonovagun
Re: HOW FAR Hey buddy....I try to keep them around 20 yards. I have never had much luck with them, but still put them out when I have time to. One thought though, be careful about putting them in front of you because another hunter might walk up and shoot at it, not seeing you behind it. I thought about that after having a hunter shoot at jakes I had within 20 yards of me! Luckily he said he saw me, and he shot from my right side about 50 yards, towards the jakes in front of me. Just be careful
lil hunter
Re: HOW FAR I wouldn't put 'em out further than 20 yards. Birds will often hang up 20-30 yards away from your dekes. If you have the decoys out at 35-40 yards, and the gobbler hangs up further back, he'll be out of your shooting distance.
Guest benelli_man_84
Re: HOW FAR I put a jake right in front of me so if someone is gonna take a shot at him, I can see. Face the jake toward you. The jake is about 10 yards in front of me, but I put the hen about 10 or so yards behind me.(cant shoot hens in Ga) It usually works. I have never had a bird hang up out of shotgun rnage on me.
