Bushman
Just had to talk...last night I was out with my muzzleloader and shot a nice buck. It went down hard but got up 10 seconds later and ran directly into the bush. We tracked it for 3 hours with flashlights. Going out again tonight. For me this is the absolute worst part of hunting. I'm hanging up my muzzleloader for the season...wait till rifle. Sure makes one feel like a poor hunter.

Turkeygirl
Re: Woe is me Hey it happens even to the best of us. No one is perfect, nothing is perfect. Practicing andh aving the best equipment doesn't gurantee no bad shots or missed. I know how ya feel though, we all do. Just keep your head up and good luck. Let us know what happens. Guest gt2003
Re: Woe is me I about hung up my muzzleloader this year for that very reason. AJ directed me to the precision rifles website www.prbullet.com . They make some all lead, polymer tipped bullets that are supposed to be the best for muzzleloading. Cabelas sells them. I switched to them this year. Their theory is that many of the jacketed bullets don't open up because of such low velocities with muzzleloaders. The bullets energy is never transferred to the deer so it doesn't do much damage. I got my muzzleloader sighted in this week. I'll see how these bullets work Saturday I hope. Good luck, Greg
SaskMan
Re: Woe is me Smitty, we gave it a good effort, the more I think about it the more I'm convinced we did all we could. He lead us on a goose chase and we gave it our best. We've both heard to leave a deer until the next day but realistically that's a hard thing to to up here with snow falling at night and all the predators waiting to clean a deer up. Our huge expanses of woods provide a more difficult tracking excursion than most places with the exception of places like Maine and northern Minnesota. Bottom line, it was dark, snowing, we were in deer woods and your gps wasn't working right. Us finding our way out of those woods was more important to our wives than us finding that deer and spending an hour or 2 getting him out. It sucks to not find one but getting home safe so we can go out again is the most important thing.
Bushman
Re: Woe is me Thanks for the feedback. Went out last night to give it one last shot. It had snowed in the morning so tracking was impossible. We wandered the big woods hoping for luck to be on our side. Nothing. Feel good knowing we did all we could.
