slugshooter
Just saw on the news that white smoke and bells have tolled at the Vatican signaling the election of a new Pope. Watching CNN now to see who it is going to be because they haven't announced his name yet.

fisherguy
Re: We have a new Pope !!! Just a question, but isn't it a bit odd to elect a 78 year old? To me anyway it seems like the church has to deal with a lot, and basically choose the direction it wants to head in. Why would they want to do it again likely in the next few years? Gator
Re: We have a new Pope !!! fisher, one of the things the news kept reporting is that the Catholic church didn't want the next Pope to be "around" as long as Pope John Paul was. Now why they would won't that, I have no clue, but I remember hearing that several times.
Norm Sauceman
Re: We have a new Pope !!! I agree, why elect someone who is THAT OLD????? I would want to find one that was in his 40's or 50's... Remember before this last Pope died..was there not one or two who died right on a row??? Live and learn folks!!!! BTW... "I" don't have a new Pope....
bulldawg
Re: We have a new Pope !!! From what I had heard, they don't want it to span out over such a long period of time, as in the last case. But, it really makes no difference to me, one way or the other. Shaun_300
Re: We have a new Pope !!! yep, saw that on CNN, the same question popped to mind, why would they elect someone of that age to be the pope? i know now, thanks guys!
wtnhunt
Re: We have a new Pope !!! Did not hear his age, but thought he looked a bit old. Does not really seem to me to be in their best interest to elect someone of that age to be the pope.
TreeStandBowHunter
Re: We have a new Pope !!! I'm thrilled. All yeah, I heard on the news that he may have helped Kerry loose the election because of his stance on abortion and a few other things morally wrong that Kerry was in favor for. For that, I commend the guy!
slugshooter
Re: We have a new Pope !!! From what I understand, the "media", who else, were speculating about what type of leader the catholic church would want. Would they want a younger more progressive leader, or would they want someone as conservative as John Paul II, part of the speculation was that they would choose an older Pope, Ratzinger, who was similar to John Paul II and who would probably not be Pope for as long as John Paul II in order to let the church "absorb" the teachings and legacy of John Paul II. It seems that this is exactly what they have done.
slugshooter
Re: We have a new Pope !!! [ QUOTE ] Remember before this last Pope died..was there not one or two who died right on a row??? [/ QUOTE ] John Paul I died after serving as Pope for 32 days I think, the one before him served for awhile, but not as long as John Paul II right after. For that, I commend the guy! [/ QUOTE ] Apparently Ratzinger sent a letter to American church leaders condemning Kerry for his stance on abortion, which is odd because American Catholics tend to be more on the liberal swing. I did hear that before the campaign, or right at the beginning, that Kerry's church in Boston wouldn't let him partake in communion because of his stance on abortion. TreeStandBowHunter
Re: We have a new Pope !!! I think your right slugo about the catholics leaning more toward the liberal side but from what I heard, this guy is pretty conservative
spyderpancake
Re: We have a new Pope !!! [ QUOTE ] We have a new Pope !!! [/ QUOTE ] I don't have a new pope, never had an old one. At least he is somewhat conservative from what i have seen, but he is still misleading a large percentage of the world's population, so im agin him! slugshooter
Re: We have a new Pope !!! [ QUOTE ] I don't have a new pope, never had an old one. [/ QUOTE ] I don't have a new pope either, nor an old one. It was a generalized statement, kinda like when they announce it and they say " Habemus Papam" (We have a pope.) Thats what the title was supposed to mean. If you aren't condemning the pope or catholics like you claim in the other thread, how can you say in this one also that he is misleading so many people. I don't know the exact reasons they pray to Mary, maybe just trying to cover all their bases, but believing in Jesus Christ and asking him to forgive you for your sins and then praying to Mary, does that negate the previous prayer for salvation from Christ. Is God that petty?!?!
spyderpancake
Re: We have a new Pope !!! I'm not condemning him as in saying he went to ****, but OK, I am condemning him for misleading so many people. You seem very sensitive over this issue, if I have offended you than I appologize, I am just expressing my opinion. [ QUOTE ] I don't know the exact reasons they pray to Mary, maybe just trying to cover all their bases [/ QUOTE ] that is just the point! Christ is the only "base"! Acts 4:12 says"Neither is there salvation in any other:for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved."
