ACLU

I was just reading Outdoor life an came across an artrical i had to read twice to make sure I understood it correctly.Im sure some of you already heard about it but I thought it would make a good conversation piece.

Apparently the ACLU is doing everything in thier power to shut down the Boyscouts of America.

Theyve managed to get the scouts thrown out of a public park in San Diego where theyve been camping since 1918.

Theyve made it impossible for public employees in Conneticut to make financial contributions to the scouts.

Apparently the Department of Defense caved in to them and the military bases can no longer sponsor scout troops.

And now theyre working to exodus the whole Boyscout Jamboree held at fort A.P. Hill in Virginia where 35,000 of them meet .This years wont be affected but the next one in 2009 certainly could be.

The cause of all this, a boyscout law that reads "A scout is reverant towards God.he is faithfull in his religous duties. He respects the beliefs of others"

Thats right, the Boyscouts are on trial over religion.Of course it doesnt matter that scouts come in all races and religous backgrounds, apparently just having faith in a higher power pissed the ACLU off.

Another touchy subject seems to be the Scouts ban on homosexual scout leaders.Apparently theres a lotta court cases pertaining to this coming up.

The only thing I find more disturbing than the ACLU targeting the Boy Scouts is the fact that our court system, some cities, and even in some cases the federal government are siding with them. That finally clenches it for me, this countries slowly gong to **** and were all just along for the ride mad.gif

Re: ACLU

I saw that article as well...realy gets my goat that they are getting anywhere with all this crap. I was never one for moving up the ranks so to speak but I loved my years in the woods learning about nature curtosey of the Boy Scouts.

There realy needs to be some "full body checking" done to this idiotic move...

Re: ACLU

As far as the Boy Scout situation, since they receive federal money, then they are not allowed to discriminate, period. If they become a private organization with their own private funding, then they can exclude whoever they want.

As far as the ACLU losing non-profit status, maybe, maybe not, I am not sure if non-profit status correlates into not having to pay taxes, but I am a firm believer that no group should be exempt from paying taxes, not the ACLU, PETA, NRA, Rainbow Coalition, Southern Christian Leadership Conference, and churches for that matter.
